Heh, heh, I'm currently wading through a book about the Thirty Years War (Europe's Tragedy) and I'm well aware of Gustavus Adolphus' having a lot of problems in Poland, where he nearly got killed/captured there years before Lutzen, a factor why he went for the Holy Roman Empire instead. Also his dad's army of about 11, 000 men under Swedish pay got their clocks cleaned at Kirkholm (Kirchholm?) in 1605 by approximately 3500 Polish-Lithuanian troops. And it was ironic the monarch who ruled over the Commonwealth at the time was Swedish himself.

What I find most interesting is that according to that map the US is practically a GERMAN Thanas country, especially the Northern parts except New England. Therefore, PeZook should be very afraid. Which one? During the first northern war, the Polish winged hussar didn't even exist - what would become known as husaria looked more like all the other cavalry forces.

Hadn't paid attention, but yeah, apparently that's that user's only post. Not that it matters a whole lot. It's not as if the stuff people are discussing here is such a secret since they have seen fit to divulge it.

There are about the same number of people of German descent in the Americas than in Germany. I have German descent as well, from both father and mother, Brazil has 10 million people of German descent, or 6% of the population.

I have:
German (Jewish and non Jewish) (say 50%)
Dutch (ca 12.5%)
Italian (ca 25%)
Portuguese (ca 12.5%)
and maybe some native Brazilian thrown in the mix.

Meh. I find the whole idea of German descent pretty worthless myself, simply due to the fact that apparently having just one German ancestor counts for being descended from Germans. After you have lived in a country for several hundred years, what part of you is still German (unless your ancestors all married Germans / 100% German descendants)?

Yeah, it's like me saying I'm descended from the Franks or something. Since that sort of ethnic 'breakdown' is only used by people trying to inherit glory or be racist, I don't think it's particularly meaningful.

These are generally the same people who use absurd phrases like 'French-born American' or whatever, because they're obsessed with the idea of national 'identity'.
