I think it's saying that Obama's only interested in saving the Left, who are all a bunch of sodomites.

well they are all about screwing over the whole state in sacramento so the Sodom appelation would fit there. As for LA, between the wierd heretic cultist celebraties and the majority of the population being Asian, Hispanic, or African/black I can see how they would see that area as unsavable....

The irony is killing me. The Right were going apeshit over what kind of mustard Obama likes on his burger just a week ago.
WTF is that cartoon even talking about? Is it talking about raising the emissions standard? Seems like it, given the car. God wingbats are fuckwits - "ZOMG, Obama is restricting what cars we buy!"

EDIT: oh god, I just saw the other cartoons on the previous page. Never mind.

It's a tortured attempt at justifying the awful "CAFE Standards" pun, at its core.

The funny thing is that these cartoonists make it seem like GM, Ford, and Chrysler will suddenly stop making trucks and the portion of the market still buying trucks and SUVs will be forced to buy small cars, which don't have the utility they "need." I say that assuming that many Americans bought trucks and SUVs because they were "safe," "luxurious," and they fit the fad, not because they actually needed them. This says nothing about the fact that the portion buying bigger vehicles has been shrinking, which leads me to think that the cartoonist is only blowing this out of all proportion to score points against Obama.

The truth is that GM, Ford, and Chrysler will likely always make some sort of light truck or SUV as long as a market exists for them. Hell, Ford - which has its shit together more than any of the others - still makes large trucks and SUVs. I don't think it's a stretch to assume that they will continue to make them even with higher emissions standards.

They will continue to make them, but they will have to charge a premium for them, to reduce the number of people buying them. Either that, or they'll have to just limit their supply, no matter what demand says, but that will still end up causing a price increase, because either dealerships will mark them up, or else the resale value will be extraordinarily high.

I've been wondering about that: will Mustangs from the last model year before new CAFE standards apply become more expensive in resale than Mustangs from years previous? Or will all Mustangs (and similar high-performance vehicles) end up gaining in resale value?

Just a few more cartoons to add to the current Car debate.

HERE once again we see the message loud and clear that Obama is some sort of all powerful Dictator who can decree and force autos across America to conform to his obviously evil and misguided standards. The Strawmans just keep coming.

And HERE our good old friend "Chuck Asay" is at it again! Here we have him comparing the lies the Tabacoo industry claimed about Smoking to... small cars. Is he saying small cars are unsafe? evil? will give you Lung Cancers? How is it that you can compare something the TOBACCO INDUSTRY claims, to a government approved vehicle (not that such cars EXIST yet, which has been covered earlier) And once again, as if to drive home a hammer the mis guided "point" of this cartoon, we have a newspaper shouting out "Tobacco Industry lied about cigarettes" Shocking!

I thought that one was particularly ironic considering the parallels between breathing in large amounts of exhaust from large car engines and smoking.

And yet AGAIN we have another one here where the message isn't just "Obama is Supreme Dictator of Cars" but he goes out of his way to make small cars. Where the hell did this strawman come from? Is it some irrational fear that Obama is going to, like our guns, take away our monstrous SUV's? I mean "Smallibu"?? "Sadturn" ??

Ok that's the last Car Cartoon for a while, unless Chuck Asay or Glenn McCoy makes some more gold... Now im going to move on to Supreme Court HooHaa!

In Germany, those guys would be thrown into prison. I doubted the value of laws forbidding outright lying and slander before, but judging from the american example they are indeed a necessity.

No. 3 is a clear instance of transferrence, as Republicans have suddenly become aware that demographics that were once minorities (in terms of power) now have enough voting power that rolling your shirtsleeves up isn't enough to identify with the commonfolk.

Starting with Sarah palin there has been a mad dash to reboot the face of republicans to include strong women figures (Palin) african Americans (The LA governor who made the counteraddress to Obama) etc.

I just pretend the first box has a picture of Karl Rove isntead of Barack Obama.

Number 1 was a bit objectionable, but didn't clarence Thomas have a bit off a debacle with Anita Hill?

number 2 amuses me because my little brother was elected as Chairman of the student Government Association and he IMMEDIATELY spent $190 of their budget on the Gavel To End All Gavels(tm) and then stole it on his way out. I still maintained he should have gotten the sparking shotput from Star trek VI.

The quick solution to being called intolerant on gay marriage: Enter someone's house early in the morning and start eating his food, then diss him for it?

Sometimes, I just wonder whether the cartoons are done out of desperation or insanity.

On this page we learn that Uraniun is infinitely better than Crossroads at this. Also, Uraniun's third cartoon is hilariously blunt about the way anti-abortionists actually think. "Women are either chaste and virginal or they are WHORES WHORES WHORES." I can't even begin to understand how a comic like that could fail to result in the author's firing. Wellm actually I do understand but I'd prefer it if I didn't.

The second one is also pretty revealing, now that I think about it, more in the imagery than in the actual text. The annoying bigot is intruding into a man's house: forcing his way into the other man's presence and requiring him to deal with this unwelcome visitor. The bigot thinks this is like gay marriage because gays are intruding into normal society and forcing others to come to terms with their presence. It would be so much more polite if they would just stay in the dark closet for their entire lives and never strive for equality.

First off, you are correct, the point of this thread is to post TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS... For the most part Ive found annoying, stupid, and nonsensical cartoons, usually full of strawmans.. Uraniun, well he has raised the bar in the pure level of Cringe worthy material. All three of those are up there along with Glen McCoys infamous "Obama Bludgeons Fetus with a Baseball bat Cartoon.

Second, I would like to echo the comments made about the gay marriage cartoons. To most on the Far Right, Gay Marriage has nothing to do about rights, it is about Tyranny for them Its all about "Us" forcing "them" to do something thy don't want... As Gay marriage passes, they imagine hordes of snarling liberals and Homos Marching into "their" churches and into "their" cities, running up and shouting "I DEMAND you marry us in YOUR church!"

These sorts of acts are very real to them, you can read about it constantly on various blog, an almost hysterical fear that, the moment gay marriage passes somewhere, Soldiers from some Homosexual army will march into a church demanding they be married!

Even if you can convince them that no one will force them to marry gays in their own churches, they think no one should even force them to allow gays to marry in court. They think that is a form of tyranny, just as the Southerners thought it was "tyranny" to force them to release their slaves.

Thirdly...

But as a Graphics artist it took me about 2 seconds to realize that, and it just screams LAZY to me.

I'm guessing that they think that since the Democrats have taken pot shots at a republican woman, then whatever racist cracks they make about Obama's new court nominee are fair game.

To a certain extent... Hariet Miers was largely lambasted both on the Cable news channels and on Capital Hill once it cam out that basically, she didn't know Jack Squat about legal issues. It was a very ugly downfull after she was first nominated and a very embarrassing hit for Bush at the time.

Obviously however the Far Right, as they so often do, distill things down to their most black and white. Miers was a women, Sotomayor is a Women. Miers got thrashed in the media... Therefor, republicans must have Cart Blanch to say whatever they want against Sotomayor, despite the fact that Miers was attacked on largely accurate terms (that she knew very little about the legal system)

You know, thinking about it, you can say using Miers goes even into the realm of good old "revisionist History" in that the ONLY way one could use here to compare against Sotomayor, is if you first claimed she was a compotant Nomination.

Laziness is absolutely nothing new among bad political cartoonists. That's seriously nothing compared to the shit that Daryl Cagle has put out:
