What if: Marvel Relives the 80s with Lisenced Series

Post by Majin Gojira »

Back in the late 70s to the Early 80s, Marvel had several lisenced titles (Transformers, Godzilla, Shogun Warriors, ROM: Spaceknight, Transformers, etc) and tended to integrate them (at least at first or in part) with the rest of the Marvel Universe.

In this thread, YOU choose a currently non-comic character or series (it may be a manga, manhwa or other foreign comic equivalent) and integrate it into the current Marvel Universe. What fromthe original would be changed? Where would they fit? etc. Go nuts with it!

I'd like Godzilla back.

The changes would be that he's charcoal grey like he's supposed to be. Preferably he'll look like the 90s Godzilla but the Millenium version would be okay. I'd even take the Herb Trimpe version as long as he wasn't colored green.

Godzilla would absolutely have to smack down some of the Marvel characters that have been pumped up in the wank department while he's gone. Since the Hulk has appropriated the Big G's dual schtick of rapidly healing and gaining strength from radiation he is the character I'd most like to see just totally overwhelmed going up against Godzilla. I'd have characters that the Hulk normally ignores doing better against Godzilla just because Godzilla's abilities and the quirks of his biology happen to hit in such a way to just totally own the Hulk. It's only fair, lots of other Marvel characters have characters they just don't do all that well against. I'd just like to see the Hulk have one that he really doesn't have a chance against. Might as well be a giant radioactive mutant dinosaur. :D

Godzilla being back might also give SHEILD something more interesting to do. The Mighty Avengers, Ms. Marvel's Lightning Storm crew, the Iniative and the Thunderbolts (lets see the Big G go up against the Radioactive Man) could all get involved and smacked around. I wonder how well Ms. Marvel can absorb energy from a big ass radioactive heat beam. :D

=========

I do think it would have been cool if Marvel's Godzilla could have interacted with the Shogun Warriors. They kind of did their best impression of the Shogun Warriors with Red Ronin but it could still be cool.

Will Godzilla repeatedly stomp on Iron Man to the delight of everyone? :)

Godzilla swallowing Wolverine, who can't get out because the radiation keeps killing him faster than he can regenerate.
And finally shitting him out in a big heap of radioactive crap...

Yeah, take the pint sized pile of wank down a few steps, I'd like to see that 8)

So you're talking about knocking "wanked out" comic characters down a few pegs.... by wanking up yet another fictional character/creature to do the deed? Seems a bit... ironic? Self-defeating? Hypocritical? 8) :P

Liscence Star Wars again, and have them show up in our galaxy and show the local space powers what it's all about.

Failing that, how about liscencing a few sci-fi franchises and making them part of main stream marvel?

i.e Aliens, Predator, Terminator.

Let's do the Shogun Warriors again!

Only this time, make it Mazinger, Getter, and Gao Gai Gar.

It'd be worth it just to see Tony Stark get Zonderized.

I understand Wolverine's awesomeness having been diluted because of the Crazed Fanboy effect, but what has Iron Man done to stop being cool? Besides the anti-reg writers at Marvel turning him into a goose-stepper in their stories?

Besides, Godzilla is a big lizard who destroys cities. I fail to see the "coolness".

Godzilla is a dinosaur, a dragon and nuclear powered. That's coolness cubed! :D

To clarify my post. I'd have no trouble with other Marvel characters being able to do well against Godzilla but I think he's just the right character with the right set of abilities to pretty much out Hulk the Hulk, who seems to be at maximum wank during the World War Hulk stuff. I suppose Banner might be able to pull some bullshit out of his ass that could make it sort of look like he won but essentially I just want to see the Hulk out wanked at his own game. 8)

Then, of course, the FF can come a long and do something about Godzilla. As long as it doesn't involve Pym particles.

The Fantastic Four once shot Godzilla back in time with Doctor Doom's Time Machine and he STILL came back.

Marvel's Godzilla was a scary customer.

If they bring Godzilla back he's got to get some revenge against Doctor Demonocus. For implying that a finned backed, Gorgo with a horn looking dinosaur was actually Godzilla, further mutated and now under the Doctor's control.

I'd even like to see some new version of Red Ronin as long as they don't try to throw in some bullshit "high tech" fads right now to make him more "awesome". No nano-tech, none of that extremeis stuff from Iron Man, no liquid metal, and no controlling things on a molecular level. I'm sure they'd still find some sort of techno magic wank because who would want to write about having to fix things the old fashioned way.

Hmmm, the giant robot thing made me remember that Godzilla trashing some of the ONE, or any sort, of Sentinels would be cool.

That is preposterously stupid. Why the hell would you send a nuclear-breathing monster back in time, to stomp all over Victorian England or eat cavemen or something? Godzilla would end up killing everyone's grandparents before everyone was born! We'd all DIE!

Why not send him one hundred years into the future and spend the one hundred years between future and present building, like, one MechaGodzilla per year? When Godzilla appears one hundred years in the future, you'd have ONE HUNDRED MechaGodzillas!

They sent him to the age of dinosaurs while he was shrunk by Pym Particles (thinking he would stay that size--he didn't), but ended up sending him to the world of Devil Dinosaur and Moonboy.

They sent him back in time when he was just the right size to have a reasonably fair fight with Devil Dinosaur.

Any character can be derailed by shitty authors. Even most crappy characters can be made worthwhile if they're used well in a good story. And wanking up one character to take out others you find to be derailed only makes the problem worse. :banghead:

True, but in the case of Godzilla vs. the Hulk it should really be a case of anti-wanking, or at least not wanking, the Hulk and not about wanking Godzilla. Even if they just stuck with what the Marvel Godzilla was capable of in the 70s it would have to be the wank of all Hulk wanks for the Hulk to clearly win, and this is coming after the all out Hulk wankfest that was WWH. :)

On related note. Is anyone reading the post WWH Hulk book? I'm just wondering how they are going to justify him not instantly being strong enough to overwhelm anyone he comes up against. Even if he's no longer the maddest he's ever been they still had juiced him up so he could survive ground zero of a gamma bomb detonation.

MechaGodzilla: Actually a dinosaur-sized suit of Stark-designed armour, worn by regular Godzilla. This would be awesome. And also stupid.

Apparently Stark's satellite weaponry used to defeat him "burnt out" the Planet Hulk / "Green Scar" persona. That sort of makes sense from a psychological point of view, as he's lost a lot of people close to him and I could imagine him retreating into the "Ragh Hulk smash" identity as a coping mechanism, but it's far more likely that the writer responsible just thought it'd be easier to use the dumb Hulk in his stories. Lame.

I guess that can work. They've gone all sorts of screwy with how powerful different psychological manifestations of the Hulk/Banner can be. Sometimes to the point of being ridiculous. IIRC there was one time when scrawny Banner was super strong and the Hulk wasn't super durable.
