Side question - has anyone seen the movie both on an IMAX screen and not on one? If so, is there an appreciable difference, enough of one to take the trouble to go to an IMAX screening? Or is it basically for the same crowd that gives a crap about Blu-Ray quality vs DVD?

My brother saw it on both. He said that some of the action sequences were mu more intense on the IMAX. You really could tell, the scenes that were filmed in IMAX had a much crisper quality to them.

Oh, of course, I'm sorry, You're right. How dare I think a Batman film should feature... The Batman. Endless apologies. I'll know better than to express my entirely subjective opinions in future.Admiral Valdemar wrote:
And? This negates the movie being cinematic excellence because Batman isn't the sole focus which we already had with BB?

It did have Batman, but it had more than just him. Come on, a superhero movie that actually dealt with the effects of a "superhero"'s goddamn war on whores - er, I mean, war on crime.

I'm pretty sure that he killed a bunch of ra al gul's men in batman begins, including the guy that he was told to execute but didn't and then dorpped the building on his head.havokeff wrote:Huh. That is interesting. He went two movies going out of his way to NOT kill and then he kills the one guy he feels can take his place and truly turn Gotham around and he doesn't even say anything about it? Now I'm sure Dent didn't die.Death from the Sea wrote:depends if Dent survived the fall or not... other than Dent, I don't think he did kill anyone.TC Pilot wrote:Even if the genreal idea behind the super-phone-sonar was silly, it was a nice way of emphasizing Wayne "Becoming the Bat Man," in my opinion. You don't really see that kind of thing in many movies these days.
Regarding Batman's kill count, did he even kill anyone in TDK? Now that I think about it, did he even kill the dog at the beginning? I just watched Burton's Batman and it's kinda jarring how he has no qualms with simply strafing hired goons or throwing them down a 100-story bellfry.![]()
He definitely killed some doggies though.
Burton's Batman kills the shit out of people. If he wasn't such a bad shot with machine guns AND rockets, he would have killed the Joker.

No bodies and plenty of time to get out, which you see the other ninja do as he fights. If they didn't vacate, that's their problem. Not saving a whole load of anarchists is better than killing a guy in cold blood.havokeff wrote: He blew the fucking building up. He killed them.
And anyone who doesn't notice the difference between 35 mm and IMAX isn't just unobservant, they're fucking blind. It's not even in the same ball park as DVD versus Blu-ray.

IMAX uses a type of horizontal 70mm film that has about four times the area of standard 35mm. DVD has a resolution of 480 lines, high definition is 1080, 35mm seems to average about 4k, and IMAX is like 7k.Admiral Valdemar wrote:And anyone who doesn't notice the difference between 35 mm and IMAX isn't just unobservant, they're fucking blind. Most digital projectors and film prints apparently cap out around 2K resolution, though.

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

But is it worth a 43 mile drive and a $15 ticket?Admiral Valdemar wrote:In any decent standard theatre, you can still see a slightly crisper image when an IMAX filmed scene comes up. He left Ra's Al Ghul to die in a crashing train. I think that's a bit different from actually outright killing a dude... I don't know.

Indeed the Joker was a total nutjob and if there was any way that Batman would seem to break his code (in his view not the people's), might considered a "victory" for the Joker.
besides Batman was in a hurry to save/stop Two-face also, there was no time to come up with a way to "not save" the Joker from death without outright killing him.
for a guy who says he has no plans, the Joker sure thinks of everything in advance (or as he put it has "an ace in the hole").
also two-face looked really nasty, I dout he would live that long even if he did survive that fall.
(I just came back from seeing the film)

Is anyone here from Portsmouth, NH? I was going through there the other day, and I saw perhaps the best viral marketing campaign for the new Batman movie. It was obviously a local effort, done by some local promoters or artists or something. But they took movie posters for "The Bucket List" with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson and spray-painted "Why So Serious?" in a speech bubble coming out of Nicholson's mouth, and his face was painted like the Joker. Morgan Freeman's face was crossed out and all the other words on it were equally vandalized. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera on me. I can't find any information about it online, either.

If the Joker had (somehow) fallen on his own, Batman may not have bothered to save him. Unfortunately for Gotham and the Bat, Batman tossed him off, which means he had to save him or be responsible for killing him.Admiral Valdemar wrote:I doubt Ra's would go quietly anyway. The Joker wasn't in that situation, but then he wanted to die. Even not acting would likely feel like letting him win in Batman's mind.
