The entire "Steph as Robin" thing was largely done as a "reward" before the mandated offing.Batman wrote:I'd agree. If the two characters were Cassie and Leslie. Steph didn't NEED to be salvaged, she just needed to be RESURRECTED (and I don't think she really needed any resurrecting to begin with-while having her around to complicate Tim's love life was interesting, IMHO the most impact she had on the DCU was when she DIED, showing that yes, Robining is one hell of a dangerous job. Especially when you're not really qualified to do it. As, unfortunately, Jason could tell you. )
That and facing the extreme abandoment issues Bruce saddled her with. The amount of times he marginalizes her or makes sure she doesn't contact anyone outside the Bat-clan makes him seem downright sociopathic. It would be nice to know Cassie went bad just to revive Steph.
It's how I hoped to see it done originally. Cass snaps after years of abandonment and Steph's death when she learns Bruce's culpability in it (IE: "I only made Steph Robin as part of a Xanatos Gambit to get Tim back to be Robin."), and decides avenge her friend and their mutual betrayal.
How awesome would that motivation have been?
