Got another vandalizing moron by the name of "Grinning Moon". I removed most of his nonsense.

I'd actually highly recommend to anyone in need of a laugh to go read Grinning Moon's 'contributions'...particularly how he went whining to Shep to 'tattle' on Darth Servo for calling him out on being a worthless palm-fucker.

Should the wiki adopt a more tounge in cheek style for all of the articles? If not...then it hardly makes any difference from wookiepedia and other wiki..

I think we also have a certain "unbrainwashed" tone to many of our articles. Arguably, it sounds like some of us have been drinking the Star Wars koolaid, but even there we're still willing to trash an idiot idea when we see one.

As a bit of a nitpick, in the Janeway article among her crimes it lists that she "brought Neelix to Earth". IIRC, Neelix decided to stay w/ a Telaxian colony in the DQ, thus sparing Earth his idiocy.

Which time pod? I don't recall Neelix ever actually being on earth.

The time pod from the 29th century Federation that shows up and ends up sending Voyager to Earth in the past. Janeway gives Neelix the task of watching TV channels for some reason.

There's a differenece between fucking research and outright ripping of material. If the material has an odd tone then you do more research to see whether or not the material is correct.

So you are suggesting that people ought to debate not by explaining their case, but simply by posting a link to the Wiki and saying "Lookie here!"?

Here's a challenge for you: Tell me the name of the logical fallacy that would be.

Is that really a logical fallacy, or just a just a debate-rule he's breaking? Technically speaking it can't be reduced into a p & !p contradiction, can it?

Right, I'd almost blocked that out. He was monitoring TV news broadcasts for any mention of suspicious alien activity. Thankfully, though, Neelix never set foot on our planet.

I think he considers it an argument from authority.

It qualifies as an appeal to authority, because when you post a link to an article on the Internet (unless you wrote it yourself), your argument basically boils down to "X is true because person Y says it's true". It doesn't even matter whether person Y has a good or bad argument; you can't say that an argument is valid just because somebody else agrees with you. At the very least, you must paraphrase it into your own words and then be prepared to defend it.

I guess I just assumed you'd be prepared to defend it - but yes, taking responsibility for it by putting it in your own words and saying where you're taking it from to give credit makes that assumption concrete. Thanks for the tip.

In practice, most link spammers are not prepared to defend the arguments they're linking to. In many cases, they have not even carefully read them to make sure that they actually agree with what they're saying.

It's actually amazing how often you'll see someone link to something, and if you actually take the time to read it, you discover that it's not saying what the person thinks it's saying. A lot of people engage in quote-mining; they simply Google phrases and when they find one in an article, especially one from a highly reputable source, they assume that the out-of-context quote summarizes the article. Then they link to it and proudly cite it as evidence, assuming that others will not take the time to read it through. If they do it with enough links, most people won't bother to read them all; that is part of the link-spamming tactic.

Darths Maul, Tyranus, and Vader have amusing image captions as well. Vader's is the most amusing, in my opinion.
