Isn't it funny how they shift the goalposts from it being Michael's fault to now God's will. Whats the odds that they will shift it again when Michael gets villified some more.

I'm pretty sure Catholics are big on burial.
To me, that just sounds suspicious that the husband wants the body burned. Or am I just being paranoid and reading too much into it?
You're reading too much into it. The body is being autopsied first.

The Pope has a say.
From the Vatican in Rome, Italy, where Pope John Paul II's own health condition is rapidly deteriorating, Cardinal Renato Martino, prefect for the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, called Schiavo's death "nothing else but murder."

"It is a victory of the culture of death over life," he said. "This is not a natural death, it is an imposed death."

Vatican spokesman Joachin Navarro-Valls said "exceptions cannot be allowed to the sacredness of life."

I'm afraid you're being premature. The war has only just begun.
Yup, let the wrongful death law-suits begin. Though I dont see how they could ever convict Michael Shiavo of anything, he did everything by the book.

Then of course, politicians are going to want to change the law to prevent something like this from happening again.
At which point all the constitutional court hearings begin all over again.

The Protestant fundies stole the term wholesale from the Roman Catholic Church, where the concept includes opposition to the death penalty and offensive war. The irony is delightful.

Fundies are not known for recognizing irony. In fact, I believe the word "irony" is blacked out of the fundie dictionary, along with around 200,000 other words that aren't necessary for BushSpeak.

Then of course, politicians are going to want to change the law to prevent something like this from happening again.
They will never risk it, not in a million years. The vast vast vast majority of americans were on Michaels side in this case. They were just tryin to mobilize their base and throw them a bone after the election. WHen it comes to law changes they will be spineless as usual.
I wish I could be so certain of that, but this Republican majority —as well as this lawless White House— have shown a patent disregard if not outright contempt for what millions of Americans think. They are running on the Arrogance of Power at this point and seem perfectly willing to trample law, justice, the Constitution, sanity, and the clear will of the plain people to service their own narrow agenda, then to have the gall to say afterwards that they're fighting to restore America to "her proper values" or whatever bullshit propaganda they spin forth. Plus, they've got to cover Tom DeLay's ass for as long as his legal troubles in Texas persist until they can find some way to derail that as well. And frankly, I believe the GOP at this point has become so detatched from reality that they may well believe they'll have popular backing no matter how much the objective facts say otherwise. You also have to figure moral hubris into the equation as well; people who are convinced they've got God on their side tend not to give a flying fuck what anybody opposed to them think.

You also have to love the irony of a man presently hooked up to machines and feeding tubes to unnaturally extend his life talking about somebody being denied a natural death.

Makes perfect sense. This is just another way that the Bush White House is going to get more mileage out of Schiavo's corpse, especially if the Democrats are too cowardly to grow even a vestigial spine. And that guy I quoted is a conservative to begin with, so it's not like this is some left wing conspiracy theory either...

The majority of Americans might have backed Michael Schiavo, but how many of that majority will actually act on it? The Republicans who were of the position that the government should not have interfered with a small, private matter still won't act to kick out the politicians who were very in favor of said issue because a significant portion of them have this unusual "stick together" mentality. Past actions have demonstrated so with the whole gay marriage issue, the 911-Saddam-Al Qaeda connection, and numerous other instances. They'll think that even though their senator or congressional representative acted beyond their given power, they were still acting on some "moral" instinct and eventually, they'll shrug it off. You hear about outraged, religious moaning whores on tv but have you heard of outraged Americans who care about the Consitution? No.

This entire issue will be a win-win issue with the Republicans because their supporters, even though some disagree with them on their actions, will still vote for them because they don't understand how important it is to maintain a seperation of powers or because they were born Republicans or because they think it was wrong but not with the same outrage that I do. And while the Republicans score points with their far right base and while the moderate Republicans not giving a shit when 2006 comes, the Democrats do nothing because they're so cowardly right now that they'd rather play it safe rather than risk getting punched back. Great way to win seats back, just do nothing. They need to go on an all out media campaign because currently, religious fanaticism and conservative politicians are controlling what the public is seeing. Woo hoo for the liberal, commie pinko media!!!!!!!!! Fucking sobs. :x

I'd think he would have to dodge a lot of angry protesters to get out.

Minor complaint, a better sign would've been "Are We Not MEN!?" which if i recall was the title of a Devo album.

Have you heard some of the bullshit the Righties are flinging about now? This will lead to Nazism, forced euthanasia of the elderly, mentally disabled, people are claiming it will lead to a Logan's Run-type situation, on and on and on...

Not that I should be surprised. Rapture Ready often cites the slippery slope as a valid logical arguement.

Hell, they've been going on about "the slippery slope this country is on" for years now. It's not just commonly used, it's part of the mindset over there. :x

Yeah, and theres's another one (in some of the other images) that says "Dying is for pussies." Both are, of course, being held by two of the fat guy's friends.

So, does anyone else have the twisted urge to, in honor of April Fools Day, go to a fundie board where they are ranting about this case and create a thread titled "CNN: Autopsy reveals Terri was aware all along!"
