And the showboating and cocksucking is just getting warmed up...
The AP wrote:CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush is changing his schedule to return to the White House on Sunday to be in place to sign emergency legislation that would shift the case of a brain-damaged Florida woman to federal courts, the White House said Saturday.

"Everyone recognizes that time is important here," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

After Terri Schiavo's feeding tube was removed on Friday, members of Congress worked out a deal to pass legislation to allow federal courts to decide the 41-year-old woman's fate and - in the hopes of supporters of the woman's parents - restore the tube that was keeping her alive.

The House and Senate hoped to act on the legislation Sunday, so Bush decided he needed to be in Washington so he could immediately sign the bill, McClellan said.

"The president intends to sign legislation as quickly as possible once it is passed," McClellan said.

During previous travels, Bush has had legislation flown to him overnight by military plane for his signature. But in this case, McClellan said that the fact that a woman's life is at stake made it necessary for him to travel to the bill.

"Terri Schiavo's feeding tube has been removed and we stand with ... all those who are working to defend her life," he said.

Bush was spending the weekend at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, arriving there Friday night after a day traveling in Florida to pitch his plans to overhaul Social Security.

On Monday, he was to leave from Texas for a two-day trip in the West to continue pitching his Social Security proposals. Now, McClellan said, he would likely keep his Social Security appearances but depart for them from Washington instead.

On Wednesday, Bush is due to host Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin at his ranch, and there was no indication that would change.

Will someone please tell this man he's not eligible for reelection in 2008.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

I have not met one single person who has said they would prefer to live in Terri Schiavo's condition. In my opinion, her parents are the most selfish people in the world, clinging to an impossible hope that their daughter might come back to them when she has one of exactly two conditions possible (depending on whether one believes in the existence of a soul):

1: Terri Schiavo is dead. Period. Whatever she was is no more. All that is left is a body, functions moderated by the medulla oblongata.

That, believe it or not, folks, is the comforting option. The option assuming one believes in the existence of a soul is far worse:

2: Terri Schiavo is currently, by any functional definition, in Hell. Her soul currently exists trapped in a living prison in which it cannot interact with anything by any means. Her only means of release is through death, which her parents are keeping her from in a misguided belief that her now nonexistent brain will someday magically return.

Actually, Iceberg, one can also beleive that when brain death takes us, the soul pisses off. After all, why the hell would the soul care about some animate tissues? But really, it is a rather disturbing thought if you do beleive she's 'alive' in there.

The Congressional and Presidential meddling in this case--virtually guaranteeing years more of this bullshit unless SCOTUS itself orders them to pull the tube--is the most disgusting display of political whoring I've ever seen or heard of. If I ever doubted by decision to vote Kerry (moot as it is now) was the right one, I don't anymore.

If Terri Schiavo still exists as a person and is capable of communication as her mother keeps insisting she is, why don't they wheel her out in front of the press so she can say a few words? Seriously. It shouldn't be that hard. Sheesh.

Didnt one, or possibly both partied already try to get SCOTUS involved? If this current piece of legislation goes through, it would only be a matter of time before the Supreme Court hears the case.

I saw a disgusting bit on the news today. It basically said that Tom DeLay was useing this case to draw attention away from his own scandels and bolster his own position amongst conversatives.

The US Supreme Court has already been offered the case, and has declined it, leaving the original ruling of 'Take out the tube' to stand.

Doesn't Congress have better things to do than dropping all their fucking business to save the life of one vegetable that used to be a person? Seriously? What happened to the war, the shrinking dollar, the trade deficit, all that shit?

As a rabid social conservative, I feel that I am agreement with the Liberal POV on this. Infact I think what confirms the belief that she is dead by all intents and purposes is this:

Three words: "value-based posturing". It's not about what happens to this vegetable; they know she's nothing more than a slab of meat. It's about displaying the brilliant plumage of your righteousness for the voters.

And in Tom DeLay's case, hoping to God it distracts sufficiently from the series of scandals promising to end his political career.

No kidding. That's pretty complete tissue degeneration.

Quite frankly, this case disgusts me to know end.

The woman's brain is not there. At the most, her automatic functions are being carried out.

An animal in this condition, would never have been put on the feeding tube.
A human being, feeding tube.

From a religious point of view, this is outrageous to.
Her brain is gone. If she's not dead, her soul is probably bound to the body until it dies. 15 years in limbo, that would suck.
If there was an afterlife, and I was put through that first, I'd do what I could to come back and haunt whomever was responsible

From a medical point of view, I qoute B.J Honeycut from an episode of MASH, to the parents, the media and those fighting to keep her alive

"The woman is dead, at least the part of her that made her whom she was. The rest of her body just hasn't realised it yet"

Let her die, and then if you want to give that death some meaning, harvest her for organs or something.

Note to self: Get a freaking living will made

Gotcha, she's missing pretty much all of the parts with 'higher brain function' in the middle then?!?! With just the parts on the outer rim?!?!

I dont see what the parent's are tryng to prove. Either one of two things has happened here depening on your point of view about the soul:

A--her brain is gone. She's dead.

B--her brain is gone, her soul is trapped in her corpse, and she's in limbo.

So either they want to keep her corpse alive indefinately for their own comfort (A), or they want to keep her soul trapped in a slab of meat for tehir own comfort (B).

Either way it's extremely selfish and stupid. Especially if your hold to the latter, as they do, that makes it even more barbaric.

Be interesting to see SCOTUS give a very strong (7-2, 8-1) slapdown. I could see most justices with the exception of Thomas saying no way.

But most likely they'd just agree with the Court of Appeals decision slapping down any new legislation and deny it ceritori just because the answer should be obvious and they don't want to waste time on answer idiots.

Congressional Leaders Reach Deal to Keep Brain-Damaged Woman Alive
