Live-Action Transformers Film gets Home/Release Date

Post by JME2 »

From Cinescape:
While TRANSFORMERS producer Don Murphy said on his website that there would be a major announcement concerning his project at the San Diego Comic Convention, it turns out that the trades beat him to the punch. Both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are running stories that Murphy and Tom DeSanto's live-action TRANSFORMERS film has found a shared home; both DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures will share in the development of the movie, with a summer 2006 release date eyed. The former movie studio will handle domestic distribution while the latter will take care of international markets.

DreamWorks co-founder Steven Spielberg will come on to serve as an executive producer on the project. HAsbro, the manufacturers of the toy line that serves as inspiration for the film, will remain an active participant in the development of the movie's storyline, production, marketing and related merchandising.

As yet no writer, director or acting talent have signed on.

If they are aiming at the newer Fans, thats exactly what they will do.

For example, i only started researching the original Transformers after i had watched Armada and Beastwars, so yes they most likely use the Armad and Energon Designs.

They are not that bad :P

Am I the only one who thinks it would be great if they got Frank Welker and the original cast to do the voices?

It's been stated before that it would be G1 characters.

Spielburg as executive producer doesn't mean a damned thing. He's produced a lot of garbage.

The question I have is whether the movie will be kiddy-fide.

Ah come on, Beast Wars was actually pretty good. Armada blows giant elephant nuts, but Beast Wars was good... Beast Machines or whatever the fuck that sequel was called also sucked elephant nuts.

I doubt that Galvatron or Unicron would appear in this movie, so Leonard Nemoy and Orson Welles aren't a concern. Besides, Frank Welker (Megatron, Soundwave, Ravage, etc...) voiced Galvatron in the third season and "The Rebirth" of the original TV series, so it wouldn't be a concern anyway.

The big thing would be if they got both Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, but the only concern is finding someone good enough to replace Chris Latta (Starscream) and Scatman Crothers (Jazz), since both have sadly been dead for years...

And yeah, Orson Welles died in 1985. Transformers was his last film.

To tell you the truth, I never watched Beast Wars. The CG was off-putting.

But I can tell you with utter confidence in my uninformed opinion that G1 was far superior to BW

G1 was made to be a children's cartoon show. Beast Wars made a point to be more than that.

On the topic of the movie: Don Murphy has stated that there are no actors or script yet, and the plot is being nailed down. He also stated that Megatron will not be turning into a gun, and that there will be no walkmen turning into giant robots. "We want everything to be in scale." were his words.

I liked BW but I found BM to be quite iffy. G1 is excellent but I did not find the movie to be good.

BW was godlike and blew G1 out of the proverbial water.
BM was a bit more controversial, but still blew G1 out of the water

Watch it, watch it! I compel you to watch BW and BM oh dark minion of Unicron!!! You must be purified before the holy inquisition!!!!

Oh pish posh

The last time I took the bait, no trap was sprung. Your traps are almost as poorly laid and as ineffectual as those of your namesake.

On the subject of the movie, we can pretty much now disregard the imdb page on the movie that said Welker and Cullen would be reprising their old roles.

I also have mixed feelings on the movie. Part of me wants it to be a roaring success, and another part of me wants it to be worse than Battlefield Earth.

I want it to be a success because then there could be more movies, which means the possibility of Beast Wars feature film.

But the part of me that wants it to fail wants it to fail so that the corpse of G1 can finally be allowed to rust in pieces instead of having Hasbro ressurect it whenever the fans say "jump"
