Can't be as bad as this guy who dropped 196 kg on his neck. Amazingly he managed to pick himself up and waved to the crowd.

Just to show that I can take a joke about our medal count, here is a video I get on my youtube subscription. You can click on the English tab to translate it from Mandarin (although subtitles automatically appear).

Those vids are always great. The royal wedding one was the best, though!

Block, could you explain to somebody who knows nothing about soccer why that game would have been less entertaining than the men's soccer played at the Olympics?
Today's game was a perfect example, because when you compare that to lets say Madrid vs AC Milan from a couple days ago you can just see how far women's soccer has to come. The best players in the Men's game need maybe half a yard to beat you and score, Rinaldo showed that against Milan, they gave him the tiniest bit of space and he made them look foolish, and he was earning that space by making two, three or more runs into, around and through the defense. The women's game there is just tons and tons of open space, you can see that from the constant long lob passes being made and the only reason goals aren't being racked up from that is because the shooting and passing are inferior.

edit: and I'm not saying the USA/Canada game wasn't exciting or anything like that, I'm just saying overall it's an inferior product and still has a long long way to go to really be anywhere near the level of the Men's game.

Good day for Ireland. We are officially good a (horse) riding and fighting. Team Ireland living the stereotype, if there was Olympic beer drinking we'd get gold in that too.

Tomorrow, the synchcro final comes and promises a much needed gold for Russia.

If you're wondering why anyone should care about synchro, here's a sample:

Fuck you NBC. Interrupted the feed to tell us about Romneys VP pick. Missed two races for that bullshit.

NBC's TV coverage is useless. LiveExtra on their site is the only way to watch the Olympics properly.

I feel sorry for Americans and their poor coverage. Where I'm at I can get the NBC coverage, CBC coverage, as well as the events that TSN gets to cover.

Because Rhythmic Gymnastic is a pinnacle of athletic achievement and perfection of form and movement?

And baseball is baseball?

Because if you folks got Olympic Baseball, it would be impossible to argue against Olympic Cricket.

I want to see Olypmic golf, the games already focus on sports that I wouldn't normally watch and I'd like to see courses designed specifically for the olympics.

Parts of South America, but is rhythmic gymnastics a popular sport anywhere? I mean, baseball is the number 1 sport in multiple countries.

Not that it really matters. It's in and I enjoy pretty much everything in the Olympics except synchronized swimming, which strikes me as Polar Express-creepy.

A surprise upset in the men's javelin competition last night was a pretty big thing here. Trinidad and Tobago isn't exactly known for great javelin throwers, but Walcott deserved that win. Finland got bronze, though that medalist was not the one most Finns expected (though better that it was him, due to all the crap he went through in the past two years).

The men's 4x100 relay was also pretty exciting and the Jamaican's just set a new world record. The US team's time was equal to the old world record, so they must be pretty bummed out about that...

Yes. South America, Korea, the Carribean etc..
Is Rythmic Gymnastics popular anywhere outside the former soviet union and eastern europe? Also Baseball was once an Olympic sport. Women's softball (aka baseball for girls and 30 year old weekend warriors) is currently an Olympic sport.

Cricket (though puzzling) is clearly a sport. Put it in the Olympics

It used to be in them. The IOC must have had an attack of gross stupidity they still haven't recovered from. On the other hand, if you were to do it properly the Olympics would have to be extended - with two groups of five, with the top two of each getting through to the semis, it would take the best part of a couple of months to get the whole thing done, even with only a couple of days between matches.

I think I heard recently that both golf and 7-a-side Rugby were going to be in the Rio games. Don't quote me on that, though.

Watching the closing ceremony. If we are very lucky Kate Bush and Paul McCartney will sing a duet and the performance will come to a close as a giant foot descends on the center stage.

And I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want. Rio de Janeiro had better gets its act together for the 2016 Summer Games. They have a lot to compete with if the British Cavalcade of Crazy is any indication. For starters, I want to see Pelé kicking five flaming soccer balls through the Olympic Rings to light the torch.

Nope, I was oh so very wrong. Liam Gallagher is worse than the Spice Girls.
