Special quote poll

When Wong last made a major update to the site, he chose to leave out one little detail:
"Prepare the smackdown for our latest newbie, (insert name here). Our flamewarriors have posted (insert number here) times."
Do you want it back? :)

No. I feel that it adds nothing to the board other than "Hurr Hurr we are tough".

But we all know votes in the HoC don't matter in board policy.

It's just a board tradition, Thanas. We don't actually smackdown newbies anymore, and not that many of us are real flame warriors. I miss it, and would like it back.

Sentimental reasons, really, but I believe they are just as valid.

Oh, I agree that your reasons are just as valid as mine. It is a matter of opinion after all.

One that we might just have to agree to disagree on.

Well I think it was a tradition back when STvSW was, well, not going strong, but at least still relevant. It seems... now that the board has moved passed that. Traditions can die.

I say no.

When I first joined and I saw that line, I thought it was funny and not intimidating in the least, a friendly ribbing thing as an introduction. Also I happen to like stupid but entertaining old traditions, so I vote aye.

I thought that the board always have this mentality that traditions for the sake for having them is stupid? I would say let the board move on from the past.

But it's not a tradition for tradition's sake. It's a tradition for amusement's sake, which is a perfectly valid reason for anything so long as it's not harmful, and I don't see the harm.

But Mayabird SDnet is SRS BSNSSingapore and that line just encourages reflecting judgment! :P

Besides its not like our great leader is above following AWESOME traditions also.

I'm sure if we wanted to, we could come up with something better... If we wanted to.

Where's the "I don't care" option? I didn't even know that message had been removed until this poll went up.

Uh, I didn't think about that.

No. It was annoying and immature. It was the kind of thing 'Elite Pwnage' would put on his BBS, if by some miracle he worked out how to make one.

No the only real tradition is that traditions die. The afore mentioned message should go the way of poking.

The smackdown line always irritated the hell out of me. I like the generic "Welcome to our newest member, [user name]" much better, but the "Our flamewarriors have posted X topics" part was okay. Especially since anyone who doesn't know what flamewarrior refers to has no business being on internet forums anyway, especially geek forums.

I liked that quote, but shame on me, hadn't noticed it was gone.

Aren't newbies customarily harvested for organs? What's with the pruddish attitude now? The main site subtitle reads "...and mockery of stupid people", wich can be seen as even more aggressive.

There's a difference between laying into someone for being a moron and laying into someone for being new.
