Please note that this recipe will NOT make a glowstick. Following these instructions will make a potentially lethal chlorine bomb, according to Jack Smith IV of tech.mic.


The resulting chemical reaction would create a “pressurized explosion in the bottle,” dispersing chlorine gas into the air, which can fill the lungs with enough fluid to asphyxiate potential victims.

This meme is for a 2-liter bomb.

I'm not quoting the part of the article that quotes the actual "recipe" because I'm not going to post how to make a fucking chlorine bomb. I get trying to warn people (the main reason I'm posting this), but I'm not sure it requires sharing those particular details. Hence why I labeled this "Not Safe For Work". Better safe than someone getting questioned or arrested or fired because their boss saw them reading the article and misunderstood.

Now I'll be the first to admit that this site isn't the most unbiased source (usuncut seems to be pretty solidly in Bernie's camp and I'm still looking for mainstream media coverage of this), but figured I should post it anyway in case anyone here encounters this "recipe" and isn't aware of the risks.

Even in the late-90s, edited versions of the Anarchists cookbook were floating around and following some of the instructions would get you killed. "Certain websites" have made a punch-line out of vile shit like this even years after that. The tamest maybe being "delete System32." Giving instructions to search for files on sites setup as FBI honeypots, leading to federal charges, and even one about "growing crystals" which creates some chlorinated gas. These posters were targeting "their own" so it's not exactly a stretch to think someone would target political rival, even if rival means "those people my dad says are ruining this country."

This is not exactly a new concept.

From what I am given to understand, the Anarchist's Cookbook is not particularly sound anyway in its 'recipes'. Some of them work, but most aren't awesome. There exists the possibility (probably just paranoia but who knows) that some versions of it available online have been interfered with in order to make the recipes dangerous to the user/mixer or inert.

Although the prevailing sentiment on much of the Sanders parts of Facebook is that this is the doing of Hillary supporters, I'm almost certain that this was done by someone on the right. Having some Bernie supporter kill themselves through ignorance of chemistry would be deeply validating for their narrative that socialism is only for the naive and childish and ungrounded.

Yeah, I doubt its Clinton supporters too, if only because in my experience (and I fully admit it may be a skewed perspective), small-scale domestic terrorism isn't really establishment Democrats' thing. Not every member of the rightwing fringe is a Trump supporter, or at the very least more closely identified with their support for Trump than their vintage Tea Party contempt for "socialism." There's still a lot of people who bought so deeply into the redbaiting of the Tea Party half a decade ago that they'll never be able to fully emotionally divest from it, and tricking a Sanders supporter into killing themselves would supply them with the kind of vindication that isn't as commonly or widely available to them right now.
