Is there something special about the Hasegawa F-4?

Fuck me that's a lot of kits. How many years has this guy been collecting them?

Why would he get these kits and not put them together?

Ah, that's easy. Modelers like this (and to a lesser extent myself) like to have multiple copies of kits for all sorts of reasons. Perhaps he's a collector, perhaps just never got around to building everything he wanted to. Kits can go in and out of production, and are not always available when you want to build one. Many superdetailers in particular can spend weeks if not months on a single kit, and before you know it, you have more kits stashed away than you will ever build. I won't even begin to tell you how many I have stacked in closets. Not nearly as many as this, but still far too many.
Edit, I missed the part above where it says he was indeed a collector, so there you go.

It's generally regarded as one of the more accurate kits of the Phantom on the market. Hasegawa makes mutiple versions of a particular kit, to cover multiple variants of the subject. Then there are special releases with "limited edition" features (new decals, etc.), and so on.
Edited for clarity.

That's absolutely incredible...I wish my own backlog was that big (and that my skills were commensurate with it.)
Ah, well. Eyes on the future, I suppose.

Here, and masturbating furiously.
Seriously, there's kit stashes and then there's kit stashes...this guy was obsessed.
I've got about 25-30 1/700 scale ship kits in my stash, as well as some 1/72 scale tanks and planes, and wonder if I can get them all built in my lifetime; but this guy owned more kits than even the best stocked hobby shop!

Wow.
Just... wow.
The husband is a kit builder, modeler, and small time collector, but it's nothing compared to the collection in the OP...
