Does anyone think we might see vsd in epIII or ISDs

I'm wondering if Lucas will include VSDs in epIII or will he just shoot out with ISDs. I'm just wondering, and how would that affect the proposed capital ship evolution if we just see Isds and the executer class and no VSDs.

Episode II is supposd to be 20-18 years before ANH, so we might see a VSD, or an ISD, near the end. I was thinking there would be a VSD in AotC.

There were no VSD's in AotC. There were only Acclamator-class Military Transports, which have vaguely similar designs.
It is possible we will get to see VSD's, and maybe even ISD's in Episode III. It would be a fun way to connect the saga.

I would bet that all starships seen in ep III will be origionals designed by Doug Chiang. While some EU ships have been implanted into the SE movies, the only EU vessel to play a prominate role in a film so far is the swoop in AOTC. I serousily doubt you will see a VSD in the next movie.

I have to agree with USAF Ace on this one. It's pretty clear to me that GL is truly exercising his power to ignore the EU and create some original ships and equipment as well he should, this is after all his baby. Let's remember the Victory was postulated from looking at design and concept sketches for the ISD.

If they don't want to completely disregard EU continuity, then neither the VSD or the ISD should be in Episode III. The EGTVV states that the VSD was created after the Clone Wars, and the ISD is newer than that. Besides, it would be really nice if they came up with new ships for Episode III. One thing which has disappointed me about the prequels so far is the fact that we have yet to see any of the Republic's true warships.

I dunno, he's been pretty inconsistent in what he wants to ignore and what he doesn't. The name "Coruscant" was invented solely in the EU, for instance, yet Lucas stuck with it. Why? It was REALLY ingrained in everyone's consciousness, and he knew that to disregard it would have been contrary for the sake of being contrary.
Oh well. We'll just have to wait and see.

We've already seen Mr. Lucas nodding to continuity with the Clone Troopers looking very much like the predecessors of the Storm Troopers. The Acclamator looks vaguely like a Star Destroyer. I expect Episode III to have ships that DO look much more like Star Destroyers- the ICS may or may not call these Victory's. BTW, theforce.net revealed that McCallum said that as of RIGHT NOW (i.e. could and probably will change) they're looking at 3-5 years time passed between Ep II and Ep III. This gives plenty of leeway for no appearance of ISDs, or even VSDs.
A predecessor SD would still be spectacular though.
This is all assuming a big ass space battle in Episode III (prolly at or near the beginning ala Empire)- which IMO absolutely must occur- this is after all "STAR WARS" and we have yet to see a war in the stars ... Ep 1 limited skirmish with whiny bad kid actor doesn't count, of course.

I think that one of the points being made in the prequels is that at this point the Republic doesn't really have dedicated warships. If you think about it, in TPM the only warships we see are the Trade Federation battleships which are really only converted cargo ships. This seems to bely that despite the industrial might of the Trade Federation, they really don't have a need (or ability?) to build big honkin capital ships.
The queen's counselor even states that there hasn't been full scale war in millennia..."since the formation of the Republic" I think the quote goes.
GL is trying to point out that the Republic only becomes militarized with the ascent of gool ol' Palpy. There are no big ships because there has never been a need for one.
AOTC also shows a republic that has NO warhsips or even TROOPS until the clone troopers show up. In fact if we think about it and take the word of the movie at face value, the Republic doesn't even HAVE an army....a bill or resolution must be passed to CREATE an army of the Republic.

Master Windu: "Pass me my lightsaber."
Clueless Padawan: "Which one master?"
Windu: "It's the one that says Bad Motherfucker on it."
Would pay good money to see this exchange in Ep III.

Nope, the VSD was said to have first seen action at the dawn of the Clone Wars. The ISD, though, came out during the early time of the New Order.
I'd be seriously disappointed if we didn't see any SDs.
However, it might be possible that Lucas is going to contradict the EU and brings us real Imperator class Star Destroyers.

Actually, when I first saw a Danish trailer for AOTC, I thought that the Acclamators were the Victory-class..... (that time, I had only read about the Victory-class ships) but then, after visiting SWTC, I found out that the Victories are much more similar to the Imperators than the Acclamators....

I wanted to see Dreadnoughts.
But they do look kinda dumpy, so I doubt we'll see them.

Although VSD are EU I hope GL does bring it about...so we may continue the story of how the ISD came to be. Plus it would show a kickass warship to use in battle.
Cyaround,
Jason
P.S.- But like someone said...it is GL's baby.

I've been thinking, Dreadnought would seem ideally sized and equipped to provide an escort for Acclamators. They have more beam weapons, and a couple squadrons of star fighters, something the Acclamator lacks.
I don't think we will see VSD's. The appearance of the VSD is based off concept art Rejected for A New Hope after all.

Yeah, of course it is. And that even increases the chances we'll see it.[/quote]

Maybe we'll see VSD in Eps 3, but will it called VSD?

Oops, I mean Lucas will probably used the rejected concept art in Eps 3, but in the movie, will it be designated as "Victory-Class Star Destroyer"? The name "Victory" comes from EU, you know....

I'm betting that we'll see some sort of Star Destroyer (ol' Lucas sure seems to like them triangular ships, don't he?). And I wouldn't be surprised if they DO call it a "Victory-class Star Destroyer". Remember, Lucas doesn't always micro-manage every last piece of detail.

Now having the VSD in the film and not calling it VSD would be pretty weird.
Perhaps they simply call them Star Destroyers.

I know. I'm just afraid that GL will use another class designation such as "Republic-Class Star Destroyer" instead of "Victory".
Well, he abandoned the EU on Boba Fett's origin, didn't he?

Republic-class? Possible they'll call them republican Star Destroyers, but that'll be a colloquial term just as imperial Star Destroyers. They aren't Imperial class, but Imperator class. Same might be with the VicStars.

The EU novelization will prolly deal with it; i.e. Star Destroyer-esque ships will be seen in the movie but of course never named- the EU will then call one of them either the Victory, which will lead the type to be called Victory-class- which will then throw the previous EU into UTTER confusion
or the ICS will merely call them VSDs.
I truly doubt we'll see anything resembling the VSD as we know it today though.
