Pretty straightforward. Were they?

Man, those last 4 million fans are HARD CORE. Voyager even had trouble shedding them, and they're reluctant to leave ENT.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I'd assume so.
I found this chart on a French site:

You did not just call TNG Season 3 "horrible".Stark wrote:Wow - look at TNG. Its hilarious that such a average show was followed by such crap. You can even see the horrible 3rd season in there
season 1 was much, much worse than TnG season 3.Stark wrote:Wow - look at TNG. Its hilarious that such a average show was followed by such crap. You can even see the horrible 3rd season in there
season 1 has the only episode in trek history that the actors requested be pulled from syndication. i'd say that gives it an edge over anything season 3 churned out.Stark wrote:Season 3 had Cause and Effect, right? All the lamest episodes I remember are season 3. I think.
Whats interesting is that TNG lost ground initially (although the first two seasons were quite weak) but over 3-5 improved overall. None of the other franchises could do that: they only went down. Fast.
Agreed. No wonder Berman and Paramount treated it like a bastard child; we knew better, of course...DarkSilver wrote:can't beleive DS9 had lost so many viewers...
I thought it one of the better series out of the 4
"Cause And Effect" was season 5. "Transfigurations" would be an example of a lame season 3 entry.Stark wrote:Season 3 had Cause and Effect, right? All the lamest episodes I remember are season 3. I think.
DS9 Was not promoted well, and some Trekkies were offended by DS9's darker tone and storyline.Darth Fanboy wrote:I thought the Dominion War stuff on DS9 did better? Odd.
Offended? That sounds laughable. I think you mean "turned off."Lord MJ wrote:DS9 Was not promoted well, and some Trekkies were offended by DS9's darker tone and storyline.Darth Fanboy wrote:I thought the Dominion War stuff on DS9 did better? Odd.
Yeah god forbid that a ST series should show that some SF officers possess questionable moral character. And that they acually have an interesting story line.Spanky The Dolphin wrote: Offended? That sounds laughable. I think you mean "turned off."
As one of the lost viewers, all I can say is "Bajoran storylines suck."DarkSilver wrote:can't beleive DS9 had lost so many viewers...

Plus DS9 lost the "Which series is more Babylon 5ish?" storyline war to Babylon 5. Literally, if you wanted to watch the Dominion war, you would watch B5 to see how it was supposed to be done.Lord MJ wrote:DS9 Was not promoted well, and some Trekkies were offended by DS9's darker tone and storyline.Darth Fanboy wrote:I thought the Dominion War stuff on DS9 did better? it was a bit hard to take DS9 seriously while it was being aired the same time that B5 was producing new episodes. especially when the B5 episode where they rescue B4 from exploding and sent it back in time in order to save the future was aired just a few weeks before the DS9 episode where the crew went back in time to save K7 from exploding in order to save the future struck me as one of the most oddly coincidental ones.Bob the Gunslinger wrote:

However, DS9 actually was a good show. It just suffered from direct comparisons to the show that it was ripping all its fresh ideas off of. In syndication, it's much more easy to appreciate DS9 on its own terms.
How can you compare those episodes?! B5's "War Without End" was a two-parter that was arguably the climax of the entire show, tied together all the plot threads from the first two and a half seasons and foreshadowed the rest of the series. DS9's "Trials and Tribble-ations" was a comedic tribute to TOS that served no higher purpose than showing Terry Farrell in a miniskirt (and a high purpose it was, indeed). Any resemblance was strictly coincidental.Darth_Zod wrote: it was a bit hard to take DS9 seriously while it was being aired the same time that B5 was producing new episodes. especially when the B5 episode where they rescue B4 from exploding and sent it back in time in order to save the future was aired just a few weeks before the DS9 episode where the crew went back in time to save K7 from exploding in order to save the future struck me as one of the most oddly coincidental ones.
I liked the Bajoran storylines. It was the standalones I disliked.Bob the Gunslinger wrote:As one of the lost viewers, all I can say is "Bajoran storylines suck."
