Last night we had our cat euthanasied. I'd like to say goodbye now.

I killed our cat I was there at the vets... he was totally unaware of anything going on... didn't react to the vet shaving off part of his fur, didn't even panic being in the car....

but.. I was the one who decided we should..

fucking hell...

It's the worst feeling.. when I'm this low he'd be the one to jump onto my lap and purr away without a care in the world... it was just like one day he was happy and bouncy and healthy and annoying ten types of hell out of dad to brush him and the next he's just... gone.

I'm so sorry.

I really and honestly hate myself for what we had to do last night. Let alone the fact it was at 22:30 when he had the deed done... but... fuck.

He's next to gubbins now.

Losing a cat like that hurts horribly.

I'll give you the same advice my vet gave me: "Here, look at these kittens! You know, a new kitten can really help ease your pain."

How else do you think I wound up with two cats after the last one died?

My condolences. Our family cat died earlier this year and it was terrible.

I second Lady Trevar's suggestion about getting kittens.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. And yes, a new cat/kitten is already being planned.
But what got to me most of all was his suffering and his silent pride.

It seemed like his age had finally caught up with him. (and up to that day he had acted like an overgrown kitten, too much energy, too much love *s*)
I'm not entirely sure. When we came back from the pub and found him like this it looked like he had a stroke.

I lost my cat Hera to kidney failure in Febuary. Luckily I still have Zeus.

Having had to put my cat down this summer due to lymphoma, I sympathise. The consolation is that at least you get to discover a whole new character with a new cat. My new one is male instead of female and my first black and white one and dammit, he's huge too. I still miss my last one, they broke the mould when they made her, but this new monster is funny.

My condolences.

I had to put my 18 year old cat to sleep last year, and it was a hard experience. After that long, you just get used to having the little guy around, and suddenly he's not there anymore. Best of luck, and hope things get better soon.

I've been there with one dog before...and my current dog is 8 years old, now, so I'm starting to get...unpleasant memories that I'd rather not think about. Molly was older than I was when we had to put her to sleep...so that was decidedly not the best of days.

My Condolences, we lost our siamese of 13 years almost 2 years back. She had the same thing, puking up shit stuff. It was a tumor in her intestines and nothing she ate could be properly digested anymore. Its a really terrible thing to lose a family pet, especially one you grow up with from childhood into adulthood.

Thankfully we adopted two new guy cats from the local humane society and things have been great since then. Although nothing can truly replace a lost loved one, you can always build new bonds and fun memories.

I, too, lost a cat earlier this year. Unfortunately, she was just a kitten when I had to put her out of her misery. Suffice it to say, I found her near death of an unknown cause and obviously suffering greatly, so rather than letting her suffer for who knows how much longer, I ended it right then with a .38 lethal injection. Dammit, I miss that cat.

Little Neko-chan was so cute, especially when she curled up in your lap and just fell asleep, sometimes for hours on end. And, if you picked her up, she'd often climb up on your shoulder, turn around, and just sit up there looking around while you went about your business.

I've gotten a new cat since than, who happens to be Neko-chan's brother. I call him Bob.

well christmas is like the perfect holiday for cats...

boxy boxes, ribbon and paper to attack everywhere, a scratching post in the center of a waterdish, with things to attack hanging from it....

It's better then the holiday the humans have where they place food that's bigger then I am, in the center of the table, now to calculate what I can jump off that will allow me proper trajectory to bonzai into the center of the table and that turkey will be mine!

We've had to have 2 of our 4 cats euthanized so I sympathize.

Ginger we had put to sleep after she had a stroke which both crippled and blinded her. That was a couple years back.

Lance we put down just back at the end of august after he was diagnosed with a contagious and chronic conditions (I can't remember what it's called but it was causing fluid to collect in his abdomen), on top of his pre-existing hyperthyroidism and old age, he was at the end of the life expectancy of his breed anyway and we decided to put him down, because we had ot safeguard the other two cats and also because the only real option we had if we didn't would be to lock him up in a room and take away the freedom he's been accustomed to for the last 15 years.

While I don't like cats, I can understand the loss of a beloved pet. We had to have our last two dogs put down because of health problems. You can take a bit of solace in the fact that he lived a relativly long life and that he didn't die a slow, painful death.
