I've been watching NASCAR since the mid-80's, when it first got shown on ESPN. I've watching the race every week since about mid-2001. What I'm wondering, from all three of you NASCAR fans on this board, is who is your favorite driver, and who do you think will win the 2005 Winston Cup?

I know, I know... it's not Winston Cup anymore, but I can still dream, can't I?


Favorite Driver: Michael Waltrip
2005 Cup Winner: Ryan Newman

Yeah Waltrip! And Andretti by default (they're from my hometown).

My favorite driver is Jeff Gordon. cause everyone hates him. its a good way for me to say "fuck you" without actually saying fuck you to your stereotypical NASCAR fan. I also like Bill elliot. Cause he's old, and no one ever thinks he's going to win, so when he does I'm all, PWNED, BITCH!

Gordan = Girly man.

Earnhardt Sr = The best there is, was and ever will be.

Martin Truex Jr is my favorite driver, even though he's not a cup driver. I was thoroughly impressed with his showing in the Busch series.

As for the cup, my favorite is Junior, with my sentimental favorite being Mark Martin. Kahne takes a close second behind Junior.

Edit: Oh, right, I think Junior's gonna win the cup next year, barring any car fires or something like that.

From the very little NASCAR I've ever watched, I'd say I like Gordon the best. Saw an interview with him on Larry King once, and I was so surprised to see a NASCAR driver that wasn't a big dumb unintelligible redneck.

Although I would say that Junior (Dale Earnhardt Jnr., for those unwashed heathens not familar with NASCAR out there) might give his daddy a run for his money nowadays... it's a goddamn shame he got fucked over last season, though...

I hate Gordan because when he speaks, every second or third word that comes out of his is the name of his sponsor. I can understand the drivers have to promote their sponsors and all (because apparently having their logos all over your car and jumpsuit isn't enough), but he just takes it too far.

I think people really hate Gordon because he's so damn good. He has the ability to tie and possibly beat Earndhardt's and Petty's number of championships--which, of course, is sacrelidge to a old school NASCAR fan.
