ANZAC episode 3 meetup

Sound off if you're interested. Aussies and our kiwi cousins are invited to Melbourne in time for the May 17 episode 3 release. I am prepared to offer a couch and a roof over your heads if you need a place to stay, though please let me know, and also be aware that my family and I may be moving soon (though that might not mean anything, just something to be mindful of). Mr Flibble and Lusankya have an absolutely guaranteed free bed and roof in ANY event, but all are welcome wherever we end up.

Basic plan is this: I book a lecture theatre in my uni and we watch the Star Wars films in sequence, but this is obviously not final; it may be better to watch all the DVDs at once, then see episode 3. Or, if people don't really want to do this, we can just see episode 3 and leave it at that. Whatever the people here want and decide, I will try my utmost to provide. For now, merely voice your desire to join in and express your interest, or your ideas.

Note: there remains the offer of accomodation for any who need it, but if transportation is your worry, then I can recommend cheap train or bus tickets for you. If you don't fancy spending hundreds of dollars on a plane ticket, that is. :)

While this sounds interesting, getting from Perth, Western Australia to Melbourne isnt exactly cheap or a short trip.

Nor do I know if I would even be free then :x

Perhaps this can help you? If you need a place to stay after such a fucking long journey, you've got it mate.

As to not actually being free around then, well... shit happens, I guess.

I'm interested, but I dont know yet if I'll be able to afford it, and fitting it in time-wise might be difficult as well.

There's another reason I want to come over to Australia, actually. My father's Australian and presumably somewhere in Australia, and I'd like to meet him and the rest of that side of the family - I've only met my grandparents on that side once as a young child, no other contact with anybody. I only have names, and my grandparents old address, but I think I can track them down. Should be interesting, especially if it turns out I have brothers or sisters.

Interested, but I'm not sure if I'm able. Sounds cool though.

Unless something comes up, you can count me in. And I've got my own accomodations.

Hell, I might even be able to offer a fold-up bed (or two) and the couch in the living room of my house, though I can't make any promises.

I really want to, but can't really justify the cost of a trip across the ditch (to my birthland actually) just for a movie. Sorry :(

Yeah, with 2 kids coming and Melbourne being waaay across the world's largest ocean, I don't think I could make it. :P (FYI, I'm a Kiwi living in Ohio, in case you're confused  )

As I have said, if I can scrape the money together I'm there. And I should be able to save enough between now and May.

An excuse to go to the only Australian city I haven't been to? And no, I don't count Darwin and Perth :)

May's like miles away; I'm there, study permitting. I'll work out my own accomodation, if anyone needs somewhere let me know. I'll be paying for the whole suite myself, so people can crash if I can get you past the porter.

Any fashion tips for Melbourne? How cold is it in May?

Have you been to the great metropolis of the south that is Hobart?

And I'll definately be doing my best to get there?

What cinema will we be hitting - try for Gold class?

If gold class(Greater Union) comes with free popcorn & softdrinks (Hoyts version does) then its actually cheaper to get than a adult ticket + large popcorn & large drink

But doesn't Gold Class have better seating quality?

I dont know about Gold Class, but La Premiere had damn nice seats in when I saw the Australian premiere of LOTR: The Two Towers.

The waiter delievery of stuff for Gold Class looks nice, but I cant see if you get free popcorn & soft drink out of it via the website. I should be going to a gold class seating after Christmas so I'll report back on it.

Should be able to make it, count me in. I'll look into it more carefuly when we get a little closer. Though I'd probably be leaning more to comming down, playing tourist for a day or two, catch the movie, then head back up to Sydney.

Not sure if I'll fly or drive. Its possible to make it in a day if you start early, but I just don't think I could be bothered. Jetstar or Virgin should have some chepo tickets.

I looked earlier today, flights with VirginBlue range from about $60 to $150 each way.

Don't drive, man; its just horrible to blow on gas, do nasty things to your car, and feel like shit when you get there. Go air! :) Can anyone reccomend a swish-ass hotel in Melbers? Here in B-B-land the big chains aren't really very good (Hilton, Marriot, etc). I stay with the GCI! :D

And yes I have been to Hobart, Adelaide, Sydney, and of course Bris-vegas. I have to say I prefer Adelaide, but I was there for a week with plenty of sex, so that might have something to do with it.

I'll be there.

We should compile a list of who's going and what dates are being arranged, accomodation might be cheaper if we book as a large group.

I'm all up for any excuse to go to Melbourne (so I can see this cute guy I know from there again), and that's assuming that I'm not going to uni there next year against my mother's wishes.

But can we PLEASE not watch the DVD editions????? I've got the unadulterated versions on tape, and they're so much nicer too watch. Less useless gratuitous CG, Greedo doesn't shoot first, and they have the "yub yub" song.

Please?????

*eyes well up pleadingly*

Why don't you move to Adelaide? I'm happy to help you out.

*glances at sig*

Adelaide Rocks!

I've got the VHS editions too, but to be frank I don't mind the SE version so much. Yes, there are a few things in it which suck, but they don't detract too much from the viewing. Besides, DVD quality = teh shiznit. :D
