Force user detection methods?

Hey guys,
I seem to remember in one of the novels, there was a mention of a technological method of detecting one's source sensitivity. It involved a set of paddles or something. I have some questions for some research I'm doing:
1) Am I imagining this?
2) If not, was there an imperial personnel mentioned that came up with the device?
3) What book were they mentioned in?
4) Is anyone aware of any other technological means of force detection (besides the now infamous midicholorian scan)?
Thanks in advance!

You aren't delusional. It's from the
Jedi Search (

). It's supposedly used by the non-force users in jedi hunting teams. No one more details than that are given than that.
It's probably some sort of advanced midi-chlorian detector.

1. No, they're real.
2. Not as I remember. I believe they were Jedi tech.
3. Dark Empire IIRC.
4. Vornskyrs. They hunt using the Force, and instinctively act aggressively towards force users.

Also regular Yslamari, simple watch people for reactions, For force users, its the equvilant of shooting up with drugs(The whooa and staggering factor not the rest)
Thats a low-tech method anyway, The Scanner panels can check for Jedi's but slowly
Plus whatever they had in TPM

How about?
The bastard cross of the Jedi Search think, and SD sensors.
"Captain, there is a jedi on the third moon of the fourth planet."
"fire"
