I personally like Stackpole. Without him, Wedge would have still been a secondary character, as would have Wes and Hobbie.

On the other hand, I don't like the NJO series strictly because of commercialism. One singular giant story-arc going through 20-odd books, some of which are hardback and therefor expensive, that in my viewpoint means you have to read all the books to understand what's going on. I got as far as the Han Solo duology and gave up. That was the most useless piece of crap I've ever tried to read. Even with as much as I love Aaron Allston, I can't bring myself to read those books because of the fact I'm about 6 books behind.

anyway... I too am curious as to why everyone seems to despise Mike.

Captain Drysso refers to an ISD as being less than a tenth the size of Lusakya.

Size not length mind you, the 17.5 Executor class would have the volume of more than a hundred SDs.
Anyways....

I think so far, with a few exceptions (Dark Journey and Balance Point were not at all engaging), the series has been quite good, Conquest, Star by Star, and Traitor in particular. I'm really looking forward to Destiny's Way.

Never, ever, EVER, read Dark Journey. It's poorly written, and the rest of the series TOTALLY ignores it.

Yes, yes it is utter crap, and a blot in the storyline. Damn Kyp Durron & Jaina for associating with the bastard. The whole storyline is sluggish and nothing happens until the last 30 pages. I would of burned the burned the book if Jag Fel was not in it.

I don't hate the NJO books the way many posters do. I don't mind the character deaths at all (in fact, I even think some of them have added to the story). I don't mind the Yuuzhan Vong, because I recognize that the Jedi need opponents who can fight them on relatively equal terms to keep the books exciting. I loved SbS, I kind of liked several of the other books. However, as a series, I don't think that they have come anywhere near their promise. I think I could have written a better novel. It is unfortunate that so many of the books are of inferior quality. Books like SbS are balanced by others that have just been taking up space, and they have had no real purpose. I don't like some of the characters, particularly Jacen (although he was okay in Traitor). And I think that many of the plot elements are SERIOUSLY contrived. Part of SW is going beyond the limits of what has been done before, and none of the NJO books have really tried to do that.

i think they don't want us to read the NJO series or something. it's like watching the original episode IV and luke dies half way through. even though you're lead to believe that he's the pinnacle of the series.

now wouldn't that be lame ? well that's basically NJO.

Yep, he sure did. Though he survived becuse Lucas cut the scene. Sadly, Veers died on Balmorra during Dark Empire II.

I despise Stackpole. He has such potential and then he throws it away. Some of his books are actually quite good, but he never comes back with a second good one. He is too inconsistent to enjoy. And I, Jedi was such a terrible book that I will never fully forgive him for it.

The Enemy Lines duology is very good, it's nice to see our old Rebel friends back together kicking some serious Vong ass. In fact, were it not for Dark Journey the whole recent batch of NJO books would all be top-notch.

Has Elaine Cunningham written any decent SW stuff? If not, then on the basis of Dark Journey alone she should never be allowed to write SW again.

Enemy Lines is good indeed. Especially, when the Lukansya takes down a whole Yuzzhan Vong reserve fleet. oo bad it had too di though it took an equilvant worldship with it. And Elaine Cummingham is a crackpot fanstay writer Hippie. She needs too die.

Besides the Queen mother dieing and Tenal Ka becoming queen in Dark Journey did any thing else important happen in it?

Jaina becomes Kyp's apprentice, the Vong are expelled from Hapes.

Yeah, however we can invalidate it rather easily. As little as I like the EU, Hobbie just cannot die. In the novelisation, Veers was getting ready to bring the walker around to fire on the power generator. That's when Hobbie nailed the head of the walker. It even topples to the ground. However, if listings are correct, Hobbie is in fact the guy that speaks the line 'Two starfighters against a Star Destroyer?!?' Either way, Veers walker did indeed knock out the power generator and was never shown to be blown to bits. The Radio Drama makes no mentions of this either. Hobbie is a living man. Dack though, Dack's still dead.

I guess he should have watched that crossfire, or at least dodged it.
