TIL this place is still going. My nostalgia is off the charts.
Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

I remember the days before the internet was widely available on mobile phones.EnterpriseSovereign wrote: 2026-04-26 08:03pmWell the idiot who wrote that Tweet only did it twelve days too latemuse wrote: 2026-04-26 02:37pmWhy must you ruin the fun with facts?EnterpriseSovereign wrote: 2026-04-25 12:01pm It's also bollocks. We still have those at the dinner table in my house with the parents, we're actually really good about not using our phones at the table unless it's for something related to whatever random thing we're talking aboutbobalot wrote: 2026-04-27 12:38amI remember the days before the internet was widely available on mobile phones.EnterpriseSovereign wrote: 2026-04-26 08:03pmWell the idiot who wrote that Tweet only did it twelve days too late![]()
Many discussions at the pub were dumb arguments about whether something was true or not.
It must be hard to fight the temptation. Although, with AI slop and the enshittification of the internet, it may go back to the way it used to be.EnterpriseSovereign wrote: 2026-04-27 07:34amWe still have those at the dinner table in my house with the parents, we're actually really good about not using our phones at the table unless it's for something related to whatever random thing we're talking aboutbobalot wrote: 2026-04-27 12:38amI remember the days before the internet was widely available on mobile phones.EnterpriseSovereign wrote: 2026-04-26 08:03pm

What car do you have?EnterpriseSovereign wrote: 2026-05-08 08:09pm TIL what's inside an ignition coil, and that there's a right and wrong way to mount an liquid-filled one inside a car's engine bay. FYI it's roughly the size and shape of a drinks can, and the oil-filled ones are supposed to be mounted vertically so the wires remain immersed in the fluid otherwise hotspots form and short out, when that happens it fucks up your electronic ignition module if your car has one.
Original Mini, I replaced the module and got a new, resin-filled coil that can be mounted in any orientation. The nearly-horizontal mounting on the car would certainly explain why it's eaten so many over the years.bobalot wrote: 2026-05-10 06:22amWhat car do you have?EnterpriseSovereign wrote: 2026-05-08 08:09pm TIL what's inside an ignition coil, and that there's a right and wrong way to mount an liquid-filled one inside a car's engine bay.
