Who are your 5 favorite web comedians
What are your 5 favorite web comedians?
1.) Nostalgia Critic (This guy is literally the god of web comedy.)
2.) Spoony: (Despite a few differences of opinion he is a pretty great comedian.)
3.) Film Master Adam: The only real problem is that when it comes to comics and video games he likes being changed, he tends to go on rants that are kind of annoying. Otherwise he's great. His catch phrase for epic film fail is also pretty funny
4.) Linkara: Great style, very funny, lots of effects that are good, and quite insightful as well.
5.) The Distressed Watcher/Amazing Athiests: Unlike other guys on that guy with the glasses I actually like the Distressed Watcher. His jokes are pretty funny and he is more analytical then others give him credit for. I also find it hypocritical that other contributers tend to be just as mean spirited as he is and make just as cruel jokes at times, yet no one ever seems to complain, but whenever the DW does it people get pissy.

I'm going to offer the opposing and entirely subjective view that I fuckin' hate him, the pretentious, whiney prick.Darth Yan wrote:What are your 5 favorite web comedians?

I cannot name five so I'm going to say anything one cracked written to the same standard of David Wong.

Most web "comedians" come off as pretentious idiots, so I'm just going to go ahead and say Maddox.

Tim, you are as dead to me as shroomy was when he dissed tvtropes. Dead and buried. But seriously, the NC is pretty funny, and his points are accurate. He's also analytical, and does tend to acknowledge his flaws (he's made two videos so far)

Hey, I'm just a viewer with an opinion!
Also tvtropes would be better if it weren't for the weeaboos filling half a page with anime entries. And the expression 'this troper'.

Re: Who are your 5 favorite web comedians
they do try to cut down on the "this troper" and the anime isn't as over represented as you claim. Shroomy took one part and acted like it was a whole, hence why i find him a turd. The NC never struck me as pretentious, in fact he often seemed rather laid back and analytical. he also said that as long as criticism is reasonable and delivered in a non hostile way, it's cool.

Re: Who are your 5 favorite web comedians
I really have no favourites. If a particular video is funny or interesting, I like it, if not, then I don't.
Subjecting to the notion that a particular comedian is a genius that only produces comedy gold is pretty childish, in my completely irreverent opinion.
Additionally, I like stuff depending on what mood I'm in. I'm enjoying Phelous and Cinema Snob quite a bit lately (yeah, I'm not in a very nice mood), yet NC feels repetitive. Yatzhee's videos are hit and miss, Chuck is consistently interesting, and most of the others (like RLM or the Nostalgia Chick) post videos once every new moon, so it's hard to keep interest.

5. Nostalgia Critic/ James Rolfe ("AVGN") TIE
I am no question a fan of Spoony's work and he's gotten better as he keeps producing content. I still remain a huge fan of his because of his Lets Play of Phantasmagoria 2. But that was before I saw the Lets Play of SWAT 4 and The Ripper which were outstanding. Followed by LittleKuriboh the guy who started Abridging in a big way. Our own Star Trek reviewer comes in at number 3. The guy who plays with dolls at number 4. And the AVG/Critic at number 5 because both are funny, but both has some serious issues. AVGN when he falls into shit humor, Critic when he goes on a tangents plus he has some seriously slipshod reviews from time to time.

Nostalgia Critic blows.
It'sJustSomeRandomGuy is pretty good. I liked Maddox when I was twelve.
I prefer my comedians IRL.

Do people who make particularly good webcomics count? If so, I'd put the likes of Ryan North or Chris Onstad up there.

I've never really bothered with online comedians, there are far to many on the gogglebox and theatres without needing to look for others in the tubes.

Re: Who are your 5 favorite web comedians
Spoony, followed by Chuck. Spoony is one of those guys you could just listen to and find something enjoyable about it, even if its just a vlog entry. Chuck was the first web comedian I ever paid attention to consistently, and he's only gotten funnier as time's gone on.
I used to watch the NC, but I got bored with the material he has to work with pretty quickly. I guess this stuff is funnier if you really lived the eighties/nineties.
Linkara was funny... until I remembered I absolutely cannot stand the American comic book industry, let alone the standard art style they use. Plus he got kinda self indulgent at some point, about when he got his own theme song.
If there is anyone who deserves to be called "pretentious" its The Distressed Watcher/Amazing Atheist. Yeah, great, you don't believe in God and you hate the right. You're also a libertarian douche who thinks he knows film. Next!
Yahtzee. Well, I watch him occasionally. Mostly to remind myself of all the games I don't have time to play or waste money on.

elsewhere on the web I wrote:is evil. Reading it should be considered one of the Seven Deadly Sins. All that is stupid about fandom can be found there. You want to read the most stupid, insipid fan ideas on earth? TV Tropes. You want to turn your love of a series into vicarious hate for it? TV Tropes. You want to kill all enthusiasm you have for a project? TV Tropes. You want to get into the worst writing/browsing habits on earth? TV Tropes. Just one look at any given article makes me want to kick puppies.... after three hours of browsing its contents, anyway. Their idea of literary/media analysis can be surpassed by a fifth grader. I should know-- I was a fifth grader once. My book reports from that time outshine any given TV Tropes article like the sun outshines the stars. Clarity, intelligence, depth of analysis... they have none of those things. Only bile, and humorless jokes. They should rename their site "TV Traps" for truth in advertising.

whille you are entitled to your opinion, i was also a fifth grader, and tvtropes out shines any of my reports, and i suspect they outshine yours. You can have an opinion just don't be a douche about it. and you were pretty condescending back there. Mayabird said she doesn't like it, and i'm cool. you seem to believe anyone who does like it is a moron.

ok. I still feel that it's overly harsh criticism. It's not pure evil, and does have redeemiing features. I'm fine if you don't like tvtropes, but not if the reasons are manufactured or if the person is a jerk about it. It's why I don't mind spoony tackling ffx and family guy, because he's not a jackass about it.

Re: Who are your 5 favorite web comedians
You know, if you click the link you might find out that I was having a bad day that day. Frankly, though, whenever I try and use it as a resource I always come to the same conclusion: many if not most of their ideas and examples are just wrong. Does anyone there actually bother to do their research? If they do, they don't show it. Its slapped together by fanboys, and that never works out well. Which is a shame-- its the only site of its kind that I know of.

Re: Who are your 5 favorite web comedians
it led me to quite a few good reads (salvation war, which evidently quite a few tropers are fans of, and which Stuart is also a fan of if I remember correctly) and some of their jokes are funny (sarcasm mode or commenting on plot idiocy. or how villians are pure fucking evil, don't always get punished, or how the writers of works tend to get things horribly wrong at times.)
I'll admit it's not a serious site. It does get some things right, and is just plain fun to read. they try to be funny, and the if viewed as a funny site with a decent analysis of the bare bones of story telling (not story telling as a whole) they tend to be ok. I even created a page there (the law abiding citizen one), and will freely admit that some tropers are jackasses while some are solid. It's a mixed bag, and if the viewer is smart enough to view it as a skeleton analysis/comedy website, then it's fairly solid.
Critical Research Failure, Bittersweet ending, and the Star wars sections are fairly entertaining, and the Complete Monster page is a good example of trully fucked up villians.

Re: Who are your 5 favorite web comedians
RedImp once made a statement of why TVTropes is shit. There are better done, better documented, better formated, better informed sites for people. All TVTropes does is gather everyone and their assholes and spew something that is vaguely attached to a cliche that has two hundred names. Even then you cannot make heads or tails of their inane ramblings.
