Rules for Obscure Fantasy Debates

Post by Darth Wong »

Just FYI: it is a common practice among certain people (you know who you are) to do "force subs" and "vs scenarios" with relatively obscure sci-fi or fantasy universes against well-known ones. When you do this, you should:
  1. Name the source. Nothing is more irritating than someone using a name like "terminator" and actually meaning to refer to some obscure book series rather than the well-known Schwarzenegger terminator without explicitly saying so.
  2. Provide some background so that the thread will be somewhat interesting to those who are not familiar with the series in question, even if they don't participate (a lot of people just like to read).
  3. Understand that you fully deserve to be flamed if you employ the all-too-common practice of relying the series' obscurity to spread half-truths about it and you get caught; appeals to civility are null and void in the face of open deception.

Please note: they who talk about an obscure series must provide full direct quotes from source material in context, or their reluctance to do so shall be considered reasonable grounds to assume they are either lying or misinterpreting the material. They are making the claims in a vacuum, so the burden of proof falls upon them.
