I'm currently considering upgrading my current computer which is running a 2.2 Gh P4 GForce 4 ti 4200 and 512 MB of memory seeing all the new tech that has come out within the last few months im wondering if it would be worth it getting a completely new mobo (one with 800fsb) Cpu and memory or if it would be easier just to stick with my current mobo and get a 2.8 P4 another 512MB of Ram and an ATI 9800 I want my comp ot be able to run all the new games like Doom 3 with all the graphics enabled but I don't want to spend a ton of money for something that will be crap in 6 months any suggestions??

I'd wait. Your system is perfectly capable of running modern games. If anything, get more RAM, save your money, and get the really godly hardware when it comes in around Christmas.

how much more RAm would you suggest? I have 2 256MB PC800 RDRAM sticks in the comp now and what the bloody hell is ECC or EEC or what ever it is and can you combine ECC memory and non-ECC memory or does it have to be all the same and ANOTHER question (sorry) but can you combine PC 800 memory with PC1066?

if I was going to get a new videocard what would you suggest i'm leaning towards ATI because they seem to be cheaper and quieter but I would spluge on a Gforce if it offers a greater performance boost

ECC memory is error correcting memory. You get a slight speed penalty in exchange for more accurate memory transactions. You cannot mix ECC and non-ECC RAM.
I do not reccomend mixing RDRAM speeds, but if you do, run it at the lowest speed.

ATI and nVidia are at, more or less, speed parity. The GFFX 5900 and R9800 Pro are about the same speed.

You can play D3 with your current setup, though not at max quality. Wait until the game comes out if you want to upgrade; you'll be able to find out what you need to play at max quality.
EDIT: Nothing will be "crap" in six months, just not top-of-the-line. You must understand that when you make computers.

When you boot your machine it should tell if you if your have ECC memory or not.

yeah.....I guess why shouldn't i be? I would if i could but the sad fact is I have no money and being that I don't want to work in fast food (im starting 3rd year of HS) there is little or no chance of finding a well paying job in computers or something that I like that wouldn't require past experience (i.e. resume) so i'm S.O.L basically

Upgrading at this point would cost a lot for little improvement.

yeah that is true i'll probably hold off upgrading for awhile ( i.e. till I got a ton 0f cash to do so) ofcourse i'll probably have to get all new everthing mobo, cpu memory, vidcard, ect. oh well nothing much I can do about that now is there??
