1394 Net Adapter Problems

Post by Brother-Captain Gaius »

...obviously not on the computer I'm typing this from. Now apparantly, my onboard 1394 adapter has decided that its is "Unable to query TCP/IP..." blah blah blah, something to that effect. It is not, to my knowledge, a hardware problem, everything is in good working order. So I suspect its some sort of driver or similar issue, but I can't find any drivers anywhere. This is on XP, sorry if this post is somewhat incoherent, it is late and I must go to bread...er bed.

Thanks in advance :D

You're using FireWire for networking? Why not just get an ethernet adapter?

That struck me as pretty strange too. Why is he trying to use an IEEE 1394 port for networking? Do they make ethernet adapters for FireWire? I know they make USB ethernet adapters, perhaps that's what he's asking about. But if he isn't . . . then geez, get an ethernet card, buddy! They're not that expensive.

You can do FireWire networking, but it's not usually done.

Well, that's how the comp came, and it was working fine before. I'm trying to get it connected to the hub which is in turn connected to the cable line.

What? Are you sure that's using FireWire?

It says the drivers for it are VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller, it lists the card as 1394.

A Firewire adapter shows up in the network connections.

That doesn’t mean that you can use it to connect to internet.

If you do not have a network card buy yourself one.
