While the history monks are tempting, as are the Nac Mac Feegle, I'd have to go with Ankh-Morpork.

Yes, they are a major power, and thus a valid choice. Come on, its not like I was proposing to lob a jug of that Agatean superweapon from "The Last Hero" to airburst over the city using a catapult?(Well, at least not to do it more than once.)

From the way you were sounding it it seemed like you were choosing Agatea as your power though.

How about a little background? With the installment of Lord Havelock Vetinari as the Patrician, Ankh-Morkpork experienced a renaissance of culture, (Are you on slab mister?) economic, and politically. The Ankh- Morpork Renaissance affected the world enormously its vast socio/economic power can be readily seen in the making of wars in ending the Sto Plains unprofitable, and the ready acceptance of the Ankh-Morpork Dollar across the world today.
It took a while but other nations are now trying to emulate the success of Ankh-Morpork or be swallowed in the Ankh-Morpork Hegemony. This resulted in vast improvements in the economy and technology of the world as the other nations try to catch up to Ankh-Morpok. These changes can be readily seen in the forming of the Uberwald Federation.
Events seen in the town of Bonk demonstrated that either Uberwald rise out of its proto-nation-state or be an unwilling member of the Ankh-Morpork Hegemony. These events resulted in the Second Diet of Bugs with the major parties of Uberwald agreeing that actions must be taken in response to the state of the world (Rhys: “And for Ankh-Morpork not to skin us in fat prices”).
Amongst the first actions taken by the new regime is to end all interspecies warfare in Uberwald and the building of the surface and subterranean intra Uberwald highway system. The next project tackled was the creation of a national postal and communications systems enabled by the highways now crossing Uberwald. Now the challenge is to build the armed forces, monetary system, stable justice system beyond that of the current feudal one and to expand Uberwald products beyond that of the Sto Plains.
