Best Game Music
I'm nominating Red Storm Entertainment and composer Bill Brown for having the best game and game-themed music: Specifically, the Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear and Raven Shield themes, as well as the themes for their respective mission packs (Urban Operations being a particular standout).
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the RSE themes and who have cable connections, I can send you an excellent example.

Otherworld from FFX is the best I've heard. The one in the opening Blitzball scene and when u fight Braskas Final Aeon at the end, really nice.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

The opening music for the ED campaign is the best in any game I've ever played.

I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

FF VI and VII, of course.
WarCraft II and it's Expansion (since that added some music).
Any Star Wars (set in the OT, anyway, never played any Prequel games too seriously).
StarCraft and it's Expansion (that Templar world or whatever the heck it is I know of, and it is very good! Don't know if there's new music on the Desert or Ice worlds, if so, lemme know so I can go in and listen!).
Stronghold Crusaders had some good ones, though they weren't that long lasting it seemed.
Jane's USNF 97 had some fun Top Gun-ish music, as well as a very nice intro song for the Vietnam campaign. Fleet Command was also good, as was what I could hear of F/A-18.
Myst. And thanks to the Masterpiece Edition I have the Soundtrack!
That's all I can think of right now, though there are definately more out there.

Re: Best Game Music
Here I am showing off how old-fashioned I am, but I always thought one of the best in-game soundtracks has always been the original TIE Fighter MIDIs.Raoul Duke, Jr. wrote:I'm nominating Red Storm Entertainment and composer Bill Brown for having the best game and game-themed music: Specifically, the Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear and Raven Shield themes, as well as the themes for their respective mission packs (Urban Operations being a particular standout).

Any SNES game, they all have awesome musics, especially RPGs.
In my talons, I shape clay, crafting life forms as I please. If I wish, I can smash it all. Around me is a burgeoning empire of steel. From my throne room, lines of power careen into the skies of Earth. My whims will become lightning bolts that raze the mounds of humanity. Out of chaos, they will run and whimper, praying for me to end their tedious anarchy. I am drunk with this vision. God: the title suits me well.
