Mess April Fools Pranks in the 'Famous Threads' forum?

A failed experiment whereby board users were invited to advise the Senate, and instead attempted to replace the Senate.

Mess April Fools Pranks in the 'Famous Threads' forum?

Post by Nieztchean Uber-Amoeba »

Let's be honest: the Famous Threads forum isn't very good. It's got the election threads + the Palestine thread, which are just really long as opposed to really good, being mostly filled with bullshit, knee-jerk reaction posts, and dozens of little speculations long passed by, and it has the Lord of the Rings thread, which is actually a really good thread and a good example of what this board can do.

I propose that there are two other examples that ought to be displayed for posterity: their April Fools pranks. It bugs me to this day that I can only read the DADT blow-up one day per year, maybe, if I can dig through the vast lagoons of industrial-grade steamed meat spam threads that comprise Spamworld, and to be honest I've yet to read the original 'Rob Wilson's a cook!' thread in its entirety.

I think that these threads are perfect candidates for the Famous Threads forum, both being famous on the board, enjoyable reading, and generally worthy of preservation on the board.

What say you, 'netizens?

AYE! And toss the Senate thread related to the DADT prank in there, as well. Or at the very least, a link to it in the post Bean or the other Supermods will probably add during the move, at the end.

I'd like to see that stuff too since I'm, like, totally oblivious to them.

And how can we (RAR FUCK THE) Plebes find them? They're like in the Spamworld forum, rite?

Actually I think most of the Mess' AFD threads ended up in the HoS rather than Spamworld.

Like Bean pointed out, there's more then one. And more then a few involved policy that most of you will never see. So for the main hurrah thread Mess asked it to be cleaned up of spam and to be placed into the Mess? Yeah, let's keep it there. They earned that.

It's their trophy and let's leave it at that. It was famous for many reasons but for a good many that were not particularly endearing to a few of the higher ups.

If it's not just N&P threads, then how about the Trek movie review thread? I'm not sure about overall quality, but it's the kind of thing I might want to see if I was joining the board, 'what did everyone here think about the Trek reboot'.

I don't think that one was ever moved into the Mess and is still in Spamworld (or for all I know, still buried somewhere in the Hall of the Shame). Only DADT was moved into the Mess so far as I know.

You know, if only there were a thread where you could nominate other threads that you think are worthy of being added to the Famous Thread forum. Man that would just be swell. Some one should have really thought of that.

Except that thread didn't work. The thread about the Baghdad Tiger never got moved and neither did anything else listed there so no one used it anymore and everybody stopped thinking about it.

Baghdad Tiger and the Pope John Paul death threads have been moved to Famous Threads.

The problem with the famous threads suggestions thread got predictably bogged down when people started suggesting anything and everything that popped into their minds.

There's memorable threads and there's the really famous ones and the latter category is pretty exclusive. Some of the other stuff that might rate are threads from around the 2004 election period as well as the Iraq war buildup, if there are significant enough threads there.

The Iran Revolution thread has already been pegged for famous threads when that situation resolves itself. As well as one other thread I'll not name here which could end up there.

Do people want the Iraq War buildup thread enshrined for all to see. I shudder to think about what a righttard wanker I was in that thread.

No requests about it as such, but it would qualify. I know some people, like you, have completely changed their views, but that does not change the significance of the thread itself.

Not moving the thread yet (I'd need to find it first, to begin with), I just remembered that there was one.

Hooray!

So...one of the unanswered (and not really asked) questions of the earlier thread was if humorous but famous threads could be included as well. I'm thinking of the Godzilla vs. his weight in chimps one, for instance.

Spamworld's gone. That's what caused the fuckup with the forum identification earlier this summer - after Ozymandias deleted it, all of the other forum IDs got knocked all out of order. If "Rob the Cook" didn't get moved from Spamworld, it's dead too.

Since I can't edit, I wonder if the Durandal/RedImperator prank from '04 is still around. I'd like to see that and its fallout preserved, too; it sounds hilarious.

Looks like somebody had moved that thread to the Spamworld, so it's gone. It's not in the HoS anyway, or if it is, I didn't find it. If Mike has old backups, it could be gotten back that way and the thread manually inserted to the DB, but sounds like a lot of work. Rob the Cook was also hysterical. Sadly, they all went down with Spamworld.

I thought Spamworld just gets removed from public view and not deleted? When it was open this year there were threads from a few years ago still available for reading.
