THE OotS Thread, Part V

Post by LadyTevar »

It was suggested a new thread begin, since Durkula is back to being Durkon, and getting a one-on-one with THOR.

For those who haven't seen it, 1135 is up

Well if his body has turned to dust it will be a bit hard to raise him.

He was undead and then destroyed, so raise dead was already off the table. Dust or no dust, he needs resurrection.

Does having the dust make it easier? Durkon mentioned they'd need some of it in a previous strip.

If they have no remains at all, the only thing that can work is either true resurrection (a 9th level spell requiring a diamond worth 25,000 gold) or wish to recreate the body followed by resurrection (which is even worse in the costs department thanks to the massive XP cost on wish). So in short, yes.

So it is either the same effort needed to raise Roy or a few steps more complicated. On a plus side they are surrounded by clerics right now.

Unfortunately, the odds that there is a cleric powerful enough to cast Resurrection or True Resurrection nearby are a long shot.

So, to quote Elan, it's probably a sure thing.
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Durkon could cast resurrection and Hilgya is probably a similar level by the rival clause (like crystal and Haley)

I'm expecting actually convincing her to do it is going to take some convincing.

I imagine the fact he's probably gone to Valhalla where he wants to end up will probably be important in the argument, drag him back so he can suffer a less noble death further down the line.

Thor might also pull some strings to ensure Durkon gets to where he needs to go. Literal Deus Vult in action.

Even if he's in his perfect afterlife it's rather obvious that Dukon's sense of duty will have him answer the call to return to finish the quest. I'm assuming right now that Thor has some info on the snarl or special instructions for Durkon before he does go back. Or he's hoping to get more info on Hel's scheme.

Remember, Durkon isn't responsible for the actions of the Vampire borrowing his body.

Also Thor doesn't seem overly concerned that he slept with a priest of Loki.

How long has it been since that strip was published? Not really 5 and a half years surely? (etA: holy shit it was. March 2013 So nearly.)

Anyway, Thor is surprisingly good people.

Wait, is Minrah heading straight to Valhalla? I'd like her to stick around, she's fun.

Yeah, I've really got to try and work that into my current Planescape campaign.

That is a whole lot of universes.

If the second lasted 4 years and the next was much stronger how old is this universe? My immediate idea was that it might actually only be a few decades old but the gods create everything including memories making the mortals think the universe is much older but I guess there's no evidence of that.

Whoa.......

Uh, wow. That's a heck of a way to make one think on your existence. No wonder so many of the Gods at the Godsmoot were in favor of redoing the universe again. To them, it's just so old hat that it doesn't matter if they do it again.

So, what does it mean for the heroes when the gods can't learn from their mistakes?
