Hey Apologist ...

Post by Darth Wong »

Will you please stand up, state what it is that you believe and what you don't, and then make a fucking point? As far as I can tell, your activity on this board has so far been exclusively limited to nitpicking the way others choose to make their points, rather than making any genuine points of your own or even admitting to any specific positions.

Are you in some kind of hurry?

Or do you treat all n00bs this way?

I have been considering some options for my first involved discussion topic, so... soon, okay? 8)

Actually, yes. Any newbie who runs around nitpicking everybody else but refusing to state his own position or make any points will get pressure to stand and deliver. You are no exception.
I have been considering some options for my first involved discussion topic, so... soon, okay? 8)
Well then, quite frankly, until you state what it is that you believe and what you don't and then make an argument to defend your position, you should lay off the nitpicks of other peoples' arguments. It's the debate equivalent of camping.

Listen, you have been on this website for a considerable amount of time debating against other people by using nitpicks and evasions. If you have a message that you want to be promoting, promote it instead of dancing around everyone's peripheral vision and making excuses for everyone by screening them using the dreaded nitpick swarm (TM).

So as soon as I make any kind of point, I can nitpick all I want?

What's wrong with nitpicking, anyway?

You can only nitpick for so long, then you must think of your own arguments and create them instead of nitpickers, if you don't change soon your ass will be flamed and you will be banned like patkelly, Pavel, DarkStar, EF Trolls...ect ect

You better get it!!!!!!

You've been nitpicking already. We're just demanding that you stop being so cowardly and state your own position. Do you know why FPS players frown on campers?
What's wrong with nitpicking, anyway?
Person A says that "We shouldn't use nuclear weapons ever again. Remember the horror of Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1944".

Person B says "Wrong. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuked in 1945."

Do you see the error in Person B's reasoning? Nitpicks are a fallacy of distraction. It is completely possible for a sound argument to be imperfectly stated, or for a sound position to be supported by a poorly constructed argument. It is all too easy to attack such weaknesses and then imply that the underlying position is weak by association.

That is why you are expected to present and defend your own position; if you think it is BETTER than someone else's position, then the two of you can hold a debate. But when you nitpick someone's argument without stating your own position, you are engaging in guerilla debating. You could nitpick his argument all day, and it wouldn't mean anything because his argument still has more substance than yours.

You may not, but it would be a good lesson in how to debate reasonably. Moreover, it is irritating to see someone dance around a battle that they are not truly involved in because they have no points that can be attacked. Your willingness to expose your views on the internet has a great deal to do with your integrity as a debater. In your case, you have built little and spent much capital with moderators and other members.

The problem with nitpicking is that it is designed to distract from the crux of the argument. Instead of dealing with major points, it ignores them and targets minutiae while not disproving the whole, or even seriously damaging the argument (because it ignores the most relevent and important aspects of that argument).

You have the time to nitpick a dozens of posts and you claim that you can't fucking think of anything to discuss? Fuck, if you'd spent that time thinking of something to discuss instead of typing out pages of bullshit we'd be having a nice debate by now. If you have the time to nitpick, you have the time to think of something worthy of discussion. Use it. In the meantime you are being an annoying shit, which is why we're losing patience with you.

Wow, he's actually admitting to being an asshole.

Can we give The Apologist the custom title of "Nitpicking Pussy" until he eventually decides to make a point?

I think "Nitpicking Pussy" would do just fine. Once he makes an agruement, which will probably be a load of bullshit, we can then add "moron" to the title.

Least he got noticed for something, even if it is negative. I've put alot of work into some of the posts I've made and I don't think that I have a tenth of the name recognition that this guy now has. This is what the lack of response to some of my more detailed posts have lead me to believe anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's true that you can make yourself stand out from the crowd by pissing people off, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. I recognize your name as someone who has posted here for a while and not pissed me off yet. Isn't that a good thing? :)

Maybe, its good to know I haven't pissed you off but I would much rather be known for my well written and well reasoned posts and replies to posts. In my opinion, it is much better to be known for a positive characteristic that you posses instead of being known for lacking a negitive characterisitic.
Think about it, would you rather be known for a positive trait (smart, athletic, sexy (or in my case all three  )) or would you rather be known simply for lacking a negitive trait. (He dosen't pick his nose, He dosen't get road rage, he dosen't kill and drink the blood of his victims on a regular basis). It seems to me the first tells others something about who you are, it lets them know what characteristics you have as an individual. The second simply tells them what you are not; and though this gives you some information about the person it dosen't really give you an idea of who they are as a person.

If you want to become well-known on this board, you can follow any of these three easy methods:

1. Smack down fundie and idiot trekkie arguments. Sometimes they will be hard to slog through, but if can establish the perserverence to stand up to them, the deciples of Wong shall have respect unto you.

2. POST! You've been here a bleeding month, and you only have 48 posts. Post often, and post well. This will go a long way to establishing your identity.

3. (Risky) Post a thread defending an uncomfortable but logically supportable position (no, extermination of all fundies has already been done :P ). If you defend your argument well, you will be remebered easily by the members of this board. Note however that if you fail to properly defend your argument, you will be regarded as a troll.

Obviously, these methods work best when used in concert with each other. Best of luck to you.

To nit-pick (imagine doing that in this thread) the low post count is deceptive in that some of my posts are quite lengthy.

To waste time refuting your nit-pick, so have some of mine (see the debates against CATW and Jonathan Boyd, as well as the Anti-Fundie Virus thread). That has not prevented me from racking up a PC in excess of 950. Face it, you need to post more.
