...and you could only have three programs installed. Which one would you choose?

Who cares? The holodeck is much too dangerous to actually use and far too valuable to hold on to. Sell it and make a killing.

Holoporn, with customizable characters as I see fit. No need for any other program really.

One of the programs would be somewhat like the matrix loading program. Only with lots more fun toys. Remember, small props are often replicated instead of holograms.

How about a complete program detailing everything you need rebiuld a Federation ship (including all the theory!)? Federation medical theory is also a good one.

And a complete Federation history, handy for figuring out what the hell their problems are.

Screw selling it, lease time for people to use it to lean the info from it. Less chance of stuffing it up due to bad reverse engineering.

If you don't have any way of getting ahold of the materials necessary to build the said products, how would the info on building it help?

Holobrothel, of course. A girl (or boy) for every taste, who's willing to do literally anything the customer wants, who never get tired, never get a cut of the take, with no possibility of any diseases, and it's all legal because it's not actually prostitution because the prostitutes aren't real. I'd make a fucking mint.

My first holodeck program would be a recreation of a holodeck. That way I can get by this pesky 3 program limitation.

My second holodeck program would be a factory program. This one would be designed to allow me to have anything built that I desire that I can get back out the door of the holodeck. Bring in raw resources, holodeck acts like a factory and refines and produces what I want. Build my own computers, motorcycle, clothes, guns even.

Third holodeck program would be a virtual recreation of the real world, one in which I can edit and control as I see fit.

Recreating scenes from movies (battles from LotR, SW) or historical events and taking part in them would be pretty fun. Or maybe the holobrothel...... :)

Doubtful. W've seen portable computers in TNG that could create a facsimile of the known parts of the universe - that's a lot of data.

Were they federation computers though? If not, then it's not really comparable.

Yes, it was. TNG, Ship in a Bottle.

A miniature Holodeck?

In a way, Doctor. However, it has

All right. Though maybe a more accurate description would be "known parts of the galaxy", as opposed to "known parts of the universe", since the Federation still has trouble journeying past the alpha quadrant without the help of wormholes.

I would like, in the following order:

1) A holodeck program that will allow me to observe (and participate in) realistic simulations of all of Earth history's major battles and campaigns, from Xenophon's march into an out of Persia, Epaminondas' daring jaunt through Sparta, drunken Alexander's campaigns in Asia, through to Napoleon's campaigns, the WW's, France's modern misadventures in Africa, etc.

2) A holo-movie theatre where I can screen any film/documentary/tv show ever made, in HDTV quality or better, royalty free. The theatre is decorated in the golden-era art deco style, the holo-ushers are all cute chicks and all wear those cute little jackets, and the popcorn is always fresh and the nacho cheese is always tangy. Also, the bathrooms are always clean and the floors are never sticky.

3) A holographic scenario in which I'm the uncontested and God Emperor of the World whose authority is unquestioned. KNEEL BEFORE ME MWAHAHA! Far better and more open-ended than any holobrothel...

The best way to do that is to give the program macroscale data on the galaxy "Romulus is warm, here is a map of Romulus. Here are some pictures of the capital" and then have it use a program to randomly make the bits you visit.

Anyway, in no particular order:
  1. Whatever program they use to describe an object and create it on the holodeck. If this doesn't count as a full program, just assume I use this feature frequently.
  2. A factory program like the one Alyeska described. I would use it to build up materials for a cloaking device for wherever my holodeck is, and power supplies. Eventually, I'd have it build a Federation starship, holocrewed, by sending the building robots built from the factory program to the Moon via transporter. I think I'd have a smallish one at first. An Intrepid, as I know that can last basically forever without resupply, and I'm assuming no one will ever independantly discover warp drive (big assumption, but let's assume the SoD only happens to things from the holodeck) and therefore, no one will ever be a threat to me. Loaded with the specifications of every key piece of Starfleet technology. Ideally, I'd like Romulan/Klingon/Tholian/Dominion/Borg stuff as well, but I don't know if that can easily be managed.
  3. A recreation of the known trek galaxy as of ST VI (Mainly because when I seduce Romulans, I'd rather have the nice looking Romulans). With optional uberpowers for one's recreation. I could fritter away most of my life simply building an empire there, and, thanks to the first program, basically do anything I liked. I'd have to solve the question of holosentience to my satisfaction first. If I thought they weren't sentient, I'd probably be far more inclined to do this.
  4. If the first one doesn't count, I'd like a program that simulates a few other sci-fi/fantasy universes if given the appropriate show on DVD. Admit it, it would be fun to solve these sci-fi debates. And it'd be highly amusing to insert one's self into say, the new BSG series with... say... the Enterprise E at your disposal. With the tech-manual stats.

I'd have to agree with Pure Sa- I mean Noble Ire. A holographic, interactive, recreation of LotR. Even without interaction, walking along and watching the movie unfold as if you were there would be incredible. With interaction? Holy shit.

Besides that, probably a historical battle simulation and the version of the Construct program Huang suggested.

I would be stunned if a Holonovel version of LotR didn't exist.

They have most of the historical works (like Sherlock Holmes and Shakespeare), that's true. Tolkien would be a must.

I'd expand #4 to include computer games too. Everything from Elite Force, 100% convincing, to the Jedi Knight series, to the homeworld games... All rendered in an absolutely convincing manner. Yikes.

 Definitely a bondage dungeon. A holodeck would be just the thing to whip up a restraint or other toy on command; "Computer, add a dildo gag to the sub-sissy maid's uniform." :P 8)

 A horror movie snuff program that can create a non-sentient simulation of anyone, complete with environments to kill them in, ranging from Freddy Krueger's boiler room to the Nostromo. You can be the approprate character complete with all abilities or an entirely new killer with a custom location.

 Aly's first program.
