Will you watch the final Trek even if you hated it?

Post by Tommy J »

I was thinking that despite the fact I hated Enterprise I am going to watch the final couple episodes regardless. It seems to me that we're all Sci-Fi fans on Stardestroyer.net and in some ways Trek paved the way for Star Wars, Galactica to even have existed. I believe George Lucas himself was a TOS fan?

In any case for nostalgia sake alone, I'll probably try to stomach the last few episodes as we bid farewell to the franchise maybe perhaps forever. I look at it this way, even if my Uncle Bob who irritated the shit out of me sometimes and other times made me laugh passed on, I'd still go to his funeral.

Question is will you watch the last few or at a minimum final episode of Trek? Why or Why not?

No. I haven't seen a full episode of Enterprise since the series premier.

Probably not, because when I watch TV I don't make a concious choice on what I watch, other than documentaries and for awhile B5. Not because I don't want to see the final espidoes, but because the final episodes will probably happen when I'm not channel surfing =D.

How can you seriously hate it so much then? Word of mouth? Until you actually watch most of the series, how can you feel qualified to judge the quality? Enterprise picked up near the end, at least according to Alyeska and a few others.

I'm opening myself up to flames here when I say I don't see why everyone dislikes Enterprise so much. OK, so it had continuity problems, but I didn't particulary dislike it.

I'm going to say "no" merely because I probably won't be able to, having no TV signal, and never make any attempt to specifically watch every episode of Enterprise (even if it's by getting it taped for me)

In any case, if I could (as in, had the signal) I probably would. It's not that bad, imo. But I won't go out of my way to watch it.

Poor plots, bad character development, recycled storylines.

Edit: If you've missed many of the shows, go to startrek.com and read the synopsis of each episode which then pretty much speaks for itself.

I've tried. The reason I've never watched a full episode of Enterprise after that was because the episodes were so unwatchable that I simply couldn't finish watching the episode. After I saw an alien in a Nazi uniform, I decided there were better ways to spend my time, like watching Stargate re-runs.

Which is saying that it elevated it self from painful to merely lousy. As some one that's caught episodes, I have to say the improvement was minimal. There were some that were good but those generally were minimal and were quickly undone. And when the stupid starts coming out in mere episode summaries I have to say it's too much. The worst part about Enterprise was that when they started getting anything write they generally went and negated it in the worst possible way.

And others have different opinions. It's probably demonized more than it needs to be here but even you have to admit it was drastically subpar. The problems weren't just continuity but also things that were just bad storytelling. Firsttvdrama.com had a great episode by episode disection of it and the truth be told the flaws were rampant. I can certainly understand why discriminating fans hated it.

OK, so some stories made you think "what the hell..?" - but it wasn't that bad. But that's my opinion. I didn't find it that bad. It was fun. I won't miss it, yet I will accept it was a watchable series (which I didn't find in TOS or DS9... call me strange...)

Ah well. Opinions will differ.

Yes, I accept others have differing opinions, I'm just giving mine. Yes, I preferred other series' of Trek, but I was able to watch it and enjoy it (unlike others) - and I accept that the scripts weren't the best. But it was a good idea, at least. Or at least I thought it was.

You're buying into Trekkie revisionist history. Star Wars was inspired by the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s and the sci-fi B-movies of the 1950s. Battlestar Galactica was inspired by a bit of Star Wars and a lot of that "Chariots of the Gods" nonsense. And Star Trek itself was inspired by (some would say "ripped off from") the much earlier movie "Forbidden Planet", starring Leslie Nielsen as the captain in a serious role. It did not pave anything, but its fans have a penchant for fraudulently claiming credit for things.

I stand corrected. I do remember Lucus saying he was a TOS fan though in one interview.

Alot of Star Trek fans buy into the fluff bullshit that Trek touts about itself and repeat it as verbatim fact. Very annoying.

But as to the OP. NO.

Once a show is dead to me, its dead. I stopped watching Six Feet Under - a must see show for me on Sundays - after a particualrly wretched episode in a wretched season and have never looked back despite friends urging me to give it another chance because it got better. Sorry. You cannot insult me as a viewer and expect me to come back. Shitty episodes should not happen when you have over a year between seasons to write and get ready.

As to Enterprise, when I saw the Trip is pregnant episode in season 1 I saw the writing on the wall and never looked back. Tried to watch a Xindi arc episode because of a friend pestering me for over a month and could not watch it.

Good buy and good riddance.

I mostly watch series I started watching till the end, just out of spite. The only series that made me completely ignore it was Andromeda...

I may watch the final episode if I'm not doing anything and have an hour to waste, but I'm not expecting good television. I sat through most of the first season of that rubbish, and saw no efforts at improvement when I watched snippets of the second season.

I don't make an effort to watch Trek I'm interested in, such as TNG and VOY. Therefore I highly doubt I'll be watching the finals of ENT, unless I luck out and happen to come across them channel surfing.

No, I won't watch it. There was a reason I stopped supporting the show, and the fact that this is the last episode won't change that.

I will. I've seen the premiere and finale of every ST series to date (minus the finale to DS9, "What you leave behind" IIRC, but I read the script for that one). Even if I've seen a limited amount of the middle (and I detest Enterprise), I'll watch the last episode, a day after my Birthday.

There's a bit of a difference between funerals of your relatives and a TV show, you know. But even then, if the relatives I really don't like at all (the ones who disowned my favorite aunt for being a lesbian, for instance), I don't attend their funerals. So your analogy fails.

The only reason you attend funerals of relatives you didn't like is to save face with the rest of your relatives.
