+Spoilers Enterprise Dark Mirror to Air April Fools Day+++
On April Fools Day, Enterprise is going to do something different.
Supposidly they've decided on a script for the Dark Mirror Episode.
Some highlights from one scene:
*Will occur during Zephrem Cochran's time but instead of peacefully meeting the Vulcans they plunder the ship instead
*The outside crowd cheers Chochran on as he completely takes everything.
*Cochran shoots the Vulcan dead.
*James Cromwell to reprise his role as an evil Cochran
*Opening sequence to be completely different than now
I like it and it's creative. Also appropriate for April Fools Day.

same with Thrawn in SW. Non-humans were severely discriminated against and even forced into slavery, yet Thrawn rose to admirality and eventually became the sole leader of the remnants of the Empire.Spock was in a posistion of great authority, and after Mirror, Mirror, rose to absolute power. It seems unlikly to me that they would let subjugated people into that kind of authority.

And the Vulcans didn't curbstomp the violent primitives because...? Remember, according to ENT, the Vulcans of this time are, at best, cunning pragmatists, and at worst actively evil.

Have you seen the Vulcan Arc? It does a fairly good job explaining why ENT Vulcans are what they are -- or were until the dissolution of the High Command.RedImperator wrote:And the Vulcans didn't curbstomp the violent primitives because...? More recent example, mirror Kira was a dominatrix bitch queen, while actually the Bajorians were conquered by the Cardassians, or something.Bellator wrote:same with Thrawn in SW. Not precisely. Mirror-Kira was a bisexual dominatrix bitch-queen. Never gloss over the details.Slartibartfast wrote:More recent example, mirror Kira was a dominatrix bitch queen, while actually the Bajorians were conquered by the Cardassians, or something.Bellator wrote:same with Thrawn in SW. Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

He was half human too, so its possible that in the mirror universe, mom was a high ranking or princess type chick who paid good money to be pleasured by the brute Vulcan slaves.Destructionator XIII wrote:Spock was in a posistion of great authority, and after Mirror, Mirror, rose to absolute power. They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Spock was not the only Vulcan in Starfleet. His personal goons were Vulcans in Starfleet uniforms. However brutal the humans in the Terran Empire are, for some reason they're not oppressing the Vulcans. There's no reason why, given a few tweaks to history, the Vulcans couldn't have decided it's logical to be equal partners in a tyrannical empire. Keep in mind, there's no evidence from "Mirror Mirror" that humans are racist--they treat each other as badly as they do anyone else, and nobody slurs Spock behind his back.Bellator wrote:same with Thrawn in SW. In fact Vulcans are feared and respected as Spock in one of his threats to Kirk that "I should remind you that my death will be avenged and some of my operatives are Vulcan." Sounds to me like that was supposed to indicate an extra sort of fear in regard to the identity of the agents as Vulcans.RedImperator wrote: Keep in mind, there's no evidence from "Mirror Mirror" that humans are racist--they treat each other as badly as they do anyone else, and nobody slurs Spock behind his back.
When you think about it, Vulcans are 5X as strong as a human, smarter and with psi abilities? Makes you wonder why humans are on top in the Mirrror Mirror universe in the first place.

We're also making the assumption that these Vulcans follow the teachings of Surak. It would make more sense if they were like the Romulans and had evolved from their war like ancestry. Spock did state several times throughout the series that Vulcans were even nastier and more brutal than humans were before Surak. Unfortunately I think Mirror Spock made a few references to logic so more likely than not these are post Surak Vulcans.Stormbringer wrote:Well, if the mirror Vulcan are anything like the regular ones, it's because Humans are just a hell of a lot better at this war stuff.

I was referring to the sexually promiscous behaviour of Mirror Universe dominatrixes. I.e. the important stuff.Lord Pounder wrote:This is Enterprise, I lost the ability to be appalled after the 3rd episode of it.Eleas wrote:You guys don't sound properly apalled. *sniffs haughtily*

I don't mean to Strawman here, but following that line of thought the Romulans should have absolutely cowerd the Federation in the 'real' universe ...Stravo wrote:When you think about it, Vulcans are 5X as strong as a human, smarter and with psi abilities? Unless I'm missing something (which is very likely since I don't watch a lot of Trek) ...

Its a good question and one that I can try to answer by deduction. We saw the pride of the praetor's fleet in Balance of Terror. It was a rinky dink little ship akin to a patrol boat. Its main weapon was all it had and a cloak. Her main powersource was Impulse. The Enterprise was infintely more complex, expensive and mission flexible. She may not have had the ultimate firepower that the plasma torp represented but she had phasers and photon torpedoes - and there were much more of her. We saw no evidence of any other weapon on the Bird of Prey nor that they had many in their arsenal. More likely than not she was a test bed for their new military tech.Crown wrote:I don't mean to Strawman here, but following that line of thought the Romulans should have absolutely cowerd the Federation in the 'real' universe ...Stravo wrote:When you think about it, Vulcans are 5X as strong as a human, smarter and with psi abilities? This leads me to believe that the Romulans are essentially a poor people. They're eking out their existence on a poor stretch of space and they're not as rich as their Federation neighbors, not as numerous or militariily powerful as her Klingon neighbors so they focus on being sneaky. You never know where the Romulans are going to be. Plus they build up this reputation as nasty fuckers to help deter people from invading.
Even in TNG verse all they have are those big ass warbirds which are proved to be not as powerful as they first seemed in the Dominion War. Also in the TNG verse we get to visit the homeworld and its pretty drab and gray, sort of liek Communist China which is the analogy in my head whenever I think of the Romulans.
Also the Romulans lack the psi potential of their Vulcan cousins and they're not as strong or hardy as Vulcan is a much tougher environment than Romulus.
A comibination of this plus a strange propensity for long periods of introspection (the Earth Romulan War all the way to Balance of Terror followed by another period from sometime in the late TOS era to the TNG Episode The Neutral Zone) leads to a xenophobic and strangely backwards culture thats probably not as aggressive or warlike as the true Vulcans were before Surak.
Wherever you go, there you are.
