StarTrek.Com have revealed an 'exclusive' trailer on their episode page for Enterprise’s 'Borderland' – the trailer is called 'To Boldly go...', and features new shots of Earth and the ship leaving space dock, and having a close encounter with a comet - mixed in with some existing shots first seen in the series premiere, 'Broken Bow'. The trailer also features the voice of Scott Bakula saying "Space, the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise...", etc etc, you know the rest.
The question is : Will this be the new title sequence for Star Trek Enterprise? Has 'Faith of the Heart' been thrown out of the airlock? Or were the guys at Paramount so bored one day, that they decided to make this trailer for a laugh?
Time will tell, but for now, check out the trailer yourself by visiting StarTrek.Com’s episode page for 'Borderland' (see the hypertext link below this text) and then clicking on the STARTREK.COM Exclusive: "To Boldly Go..." link.

After fans have been bitching for years, they finally listen.
1. they put Star Trek in the official title of the show
2. they're (as it seems) throwing away Faith of the Heart for a proper Star Trek theme
3. they stopped with the ridiculous time travel plots that lead nowhere
4. they're going to make the Vulcans Vulcan again (in a few episodes, at least it seems like it).
Pathetic really. B&B wanted to do Star Trek in a non Star Trek way. It failed hopelessly. And now, they're finally starting to listen to the fans and start making a show the way it was meant to be made (or at least, they're attempting it). I'm glad they're finally starting to listen to the fans, however, I fear it will be too little too late.

If they fix Star Trek, I will seriously start watching again. Hopefully without that travesty of an opening credits sequence.
C'mon guys, you did DS9's open, the definition of Star Trek majesty!

One of my main problems with VGR and ENT was that while both had an interesting premise, both ended up getting screwed by a writing staff that was unable or unwilling to depart from the formulaic structure that characterized the latter seasons of TNG -- not to mention their hard-on for the Reset Button (something that I'm going to poking a little fun at in an upcoming chapter of my Trek/Wars crossover).
Now, true, even after the introduction of the Dominion, DS9 still had that problem in some regards. But at least there was a writing staff that was truly excited about what it was doing and really did want to make a great television show.

You know...I think the LEAST of that vile turd's shortcomings is its opening sequence. Jesus, will they ever get it right and fix the real problem?? Horrible, horrible, hack writing and tired premises.

They're too secure at Paramount to let it happen. They should have been fired after Nemesis bombed, but they weren't.Temjin wrote:The only way B&B could do that is if they fire themselves.Stravo wrote:You know...I think the LEAST of that vile turd's shortcomings is its opening sequence. The problem with Paramount, as I see it, is that the execs are too afraid to take great risks with the Trek franchise, one of their primary cash cows after all. They prefer the traditional, formulaic structure of TNG that's worked so well (as opposed to DS9's multi-arc, serialized style; from what I understand, they screeched like banshees during the planning stages of the Final Chapter arc, saying NO serialization. Needless to say, Behr and co. did it anyway

reply to various points
I agree the theme has got to go. I don't need to see one of my favorite franchises ruined by what sounds like Neo-Christian music.
Alas, the writing has it's ups and downs. More downs than ups I'm afraid. It's going to take a hell of a lot more than a scantily clad woman covered in green paint to make Enterprise watchable.
Could it be true? No more pointless time travel? Already I think they've traveled more in time than the TNG crew in its entire run. So what will they replace it with? PARALLEL EARTH planets a la TOS. I can see it now. You heard it here first.

Maybe Paramount sees it that way...but the main problem with Enterprise was its lack of traditional Trek-ness. They used a horrible opening credits song, they ditched the name Star Trek, they completely went against continuity and everything Trek stands for, and they did use serialisation (the incredibly lame temporal cold war and slightly less lame Xindi War plots). Now, they're changing back to Trek. Shorter stories, more sense of continuity, no more pointless time travel, Trek-style opening credits, etc.The problem with Paramount, as I see it, is that the execs are too afraid to take great risks with the Trek franchise, one of their primary cash cows after all. All in all, I'd prefer a DS9-style Enterprise. However, the current writing staff won't ever pull it off. So I'll settle for a TNG-style Enterprise.

The serialization of the Xindi arc shows just how desperate they were to keep ENT out of the toilet it was going down while not even seeing the basic problem lay with its creative team. And it was an alright arc that got still ended up getting ruined by certain factors:
1. Unlike the Dominion, which the DS9 writing staff had first made reference to early in the 2nd season with Rules of Acquisition and has slowly begun building up until their full-fledged apperance in The Jem'Hadar, the Xindi just came out out nowhere.
2. Continuation of the 1st point; Why have we never heard of the Xindi before (True, the same could apply to the Suliban and Denobulans, but this was a more serious case)? This is a refusal to look at continuity as established in the 23rd and 24th centuries (The Ferengi's apperance in Acquisition also falls into this realm. As for the
3. Archer's single-minded arrogance and refusal to listen to reason from Daniels or his own command staff wasn't exactly the best portrayal of someone who has been called by advance series material as Kirk's childhood hero (Similar things were said of Sisko in many ways with his actions during In the Pale Moonlight, but for me, that was a perfect inner exploration of how war can bring out the worst in even the best men and it still stands as one of my all-time favorite Trek outings). Another the reason I was turned off by the Archer of season three was his George W. Bush-esque behavior.
4. Zero Hour; decent until the final three minutes and we get...space Nazis!!!! Been there, done that. What in the hell were they thinking?
Well, that's my two cents for the morning. I'll take a moment to breathe, maybe get a cup of yogur or hot cider...

Bah. Bakula is no Patrick Stewart. He totally butchered the "To Boldly Go..." speech.

Another of my complaints against hiring Bakula. They should have gone with an unknown, and certainly an unknown that has charisma. In fact, I've got a Triumph The Insult Comic Dog quote that sums up my feelings on Bakula's handling of Archer:Armored Goldbar wrote:Bah. Bakula is no Patrick Stewart. To put it bluntly, 'Enterprise' doesn't DESERVE the 'To boldly go' opening.
Not only isn't it Star Trek (regardless of what the credits say) but even if it was it's done so much damage to the franchise (possibly even more so than Voyager because even that didn't contradict canon as much as abusing it) it's quite simply not worthy of that classic.
Would somebody take my spelling out back and shoot it, please?

Agreed. I was so excited when I first saw the opening of Enterprise. It was different, even inspiring. Then I stopped watching after the first episode. Too bad MacGuyver was too busy with SG1.Stravo wrote:You know...I think the LEAST of that vile turd's shortcomings is its opening sequence.
