Canon books

Post by dragon »

Ok was wondering if any of the new books that are being written for Star Trek is considered cannon. Reason I am asking is in some of the new books they talk about Romulan Personal cloaks, Personal Force fields, small unit tatics, Armor and more. Hum think they been reading Darth Wong database on their poor performances in certain areas. :D

If memory serves me, only two are considered canon by Paramount. They are the VGR novels by Jeri Taylor, Pathways and Mosaic. They're considered canon because Taylor was onre of the creators for the fourth series and both books fill in many of the major gaps of the characters' lives prior to Caretaker.

Of course, that hasn't stopped some of us from utilizing elements from the 'non-canon' books in our own stories... 8)

Well it is amusing that out of all the Trek books written only to medicore Voyeger books are canon even though there are much better books out there.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Agreed. My primary example is that it's really too bad Andrew Robinson's Garak novel A Stitch in Time isn't counted.

Roddenberry's novelization of ST:TMP must be considered canon, if Taylor's are.
