How come they never used ST2 music again?

How come they never used ST2 music again?

Post by Vympel »

As I sit listening to my ST2 MP3s, I must ask- why have we never heard the theme again, but we have to put with the 'standard' Trek theme far more often? Who gets to decide, and why haven't they been fired?

Maybe the fact that we do hear it again in Krull, and to a lesser extent in Aliens, has something to do with it. I like Horner's music, but the man rips himself off entirely too much.
"Gunslinger indeed. Quick draw, Bob. Quick draw." --Count Chocula

"Unquestionably, Dr. Who is MUCH lighter in tone than WH40K. But then, I could argue the entirety of WWII was much lighter in tone than WH40K." --Broomstick

"This is ridiculous. I look like the Games Workshop version of a Jedi Knight." --Harry Dresden, Changes

"Like...are we canonical?" --Aaron Dembski-Bowden to Dan Abnett

Horner's not the only example. Danny Elfman's theme of "Making Christmas" from The Nightmare Before Christmas appears briefly during the second Batman vs. Circus Gang sequence in Batman Returns.

Because Horner was never invited back.

Actualy you did hear elements of this music again. James Horner did Star Trek 2 and Star Trek 3. As it is Jerry Goldsmith did 5 of the movies and his music had the greatest influence. Also something to consider. While Horner has his own unique way of doing things (you can hear similar themes reused very effectively) in TWOK he took the Trek theme and altered it.

"The captain claimed our people violated a 4,000 year old treaty forbidding us to develop hyperspace technology. Extermination of our planet was the consequence. The subject did not survive interrogation."

He also lifted parts of WoK wholesale for The Rocketeer.
The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.
