Deanna Troi's accent

I noticed that Deanna speaks with a small accent of indeterminate origin.
Knowing that the Actress Martina Sirtis is British and changes her speech to fit the role, what is the "in universe" explanation to the accent?
Neither Lwaxana Troi nor her Starfleet father...heard in a dream sequence...has a pronounced accent.
Boarding School with an estern european school marm?

It's like Picard being French, yet Patrick Stewart speaking with an English accent -- it's better left ignored, at least in my personal book.

just one of those things to chalk up to "special effects" gaffes and best glossed over.

Not only that but ever member of his family had a British accent too, though not always the same accent.
The reason that Lwaxanna Troi and Deanna Troi havea different accent is because Roddenberry was trying to work Majel Barrett in as a character in the show, due to them being married. Sleeping with the creator of the show is a good way to get in-universe.

Well, it's pretty clear that sometime in the future, Britain will conquer France and everyone will start speaking English with British accents. Even the French.

It's probably just how the universal translator makes it sound. She's actually speaking in Betazedeze.

This is from an old interview I read, so it's IIRC material:
Ms. Sirtis is British with Greek roots. To establish her "alien" half-Betazoid character's alien nature, she went with an accent compounded of elements of English and Greek accents. The Majel Barrett-Roddenberry got cast as her mother shortly thereafter, didn't have any sort of non-American accent, and shot that idea totally to pieces. Sirtis was kind of stuck with the accent, though, and kept it up throughout the entire run of TNG, but it faded noticeably from season to season.
