I just thought this quote was too funny not to mentionStarTrek.Com wrote:Despite those chilling qualities, [Brannon Braga] quipped, "My feeling was if you get caught by the Borg, you deserve to get caught ? lumbering along, y'know, like the Mummy. And they don't have weapons, they just kind of swing their arms at you ? y'know, how scary can they be?" He gave director Jonathan Frakes a lot of credit for bringing a great pace to the film despite the inherent limitations of the villains, and also giving it an epic sweep despite the limitations of the budget.

You know. He's right. I never saw it as that. The borg who were once techno wizs have become tecno vampires with the intelligence and agility of the common zombie.

Mike, any reason why you made this in SWvsST? I'd move it somewhere but I dare not anger the dread admin.

Yeah, basically.neoolong wrote:Wait, he gave Frakes credit for making them good despite the inherent suckiness that he gave them in Voyager?
So he just said he sucked?

That kind of disappoints me. Considering what the Borg are, they should be rather physically imposing. They have all the athletic and fighting skills of every species they have assimilated in addition to far superior strength and intelligence, yet they lumber about like Romero's zombies. Waiting to be shot or avoided

The interesting thing was Descent. Remember those two episodes? Forget the second one, it was crap. It's the first one which stands out.
It starts with the Borg viciously assaulting a Federation outpost. Yep. VICIOUSLY ASSAULTING. Not 'borgifying' but killing people (IIRC to steal tech from that outpost, another point in favour). They were 'under the control of Lore' but they were still physically capable of energetic exertion (if that doesn't constitute a non-sensical statement - you know what I mean, they were running around blasting things, rather than zombie-walking) - they didn't look different from Borg we have seen before.
Although that two-parter was ultimately unfulfilling (wasted opportunities, an ENTIRE SEASON, which was slated to be the last, which could have been about the Federation having to deal with the Borg lead by a dangerous android, Lore dying in a retarded manner a la HAL, the Borg in the episode being referred to as RENEGADES
, Hugh showing up, and berating the E-D for what they did in "I, Borg" - oh sorry you ungrateful shit, maybe you'd like to stay 'assimilated'?
), it nevertheless had one of the best Borg moments in ST.
For the ST pundits, part one was written by Ron Moore (teleplay) while the story was by Jeri Taylor (bleh), while part two was by Rene Echevarria. Ron Moore wrote some good Trek episodes, but Taylor wrote shit. What about this Rene dude? What has he written?

Has he even seen the latest Mummy films?
Running up walls?
Using Swords?
Freaky growing claws?
And that's just the minions. Much scarier close combat opponents than the Borg .

He's obviously talking about the original B/W "Mummy" film, not the recent one with Brendan Fraser.NecronLord wrote:Has he even seen the latest Mummy films?

I guess he never saw Star Trek 4.A lot of people have asked me over the years why I think this was the most popular Star Trek film, aside from the Next Generation crew which was really, really popular...
I mean, fuck, damn near anyone will say "Well the only Star Trek movie I ever saw was..."
"The one with the whales?"
"YES! How did you know?"
So he can admit a mistake. Wow.Among the varied other topics Braga discussed was the possible reappearance of Q. "We always talk about it. Q kind of got defanged over the years. He was so great at the end of the finale of Next Generation, and then he came back on Deep Space Nine and Voyager and he was rather soft.

I agree that the borg have been reduced to crap but shouldn't this be moved to PST?

Let's get one thing blody straight-
The Borg blow stuff up, asssimilate tech, KILL PEOPLE, assimulate humans to add to their supply of drones, and always manage to keep thier skin as pale as an anerexic actor on cocaine. If little Braga gets turned on by stupid monsters then he should watch another movie or direct another series.
You follow me?

I sure am glad Patrick stopped that idea in it's tracks. [/quote]Braga revealed that he, fellow writer Ronald D. Moore and producer Rick Berman once considered setting the film even further in the past, having the Borg invading medieval times on Earth. But Patrick Stewart said, "I don't want to wear tights," and they agreed. After further mulling they decided to set the movie "at the time that Star Trek was born."

It sounds like they are so fucking desperate that they must copy Lord of the Rings now? Besides why should Patrick Steward be part of it ,he said he had quite Star Trek.
