Help me buy TOS Movie DVDs!

Post by StarshipTitanic »

The only TOS movies I'm interested in II, III, IV, and VI. I usually find DVDs for less at Amazon.com so I checked there.

For all six, I can get a better deal per DVD:

Boxed set I-VI, $74.69, $12.45 per DVD

This is more expensive, I included it in case someone had thought of it:

II and III together, $32.78

IV and VI together, $32.78

Total: $65.56, $16.39 per DVD

I want to buy them new, but I thought I should check with you guys before I commit my hard-earned money to anything.

You can always buy the box set, and then if they didn't screw with the UPC codes you can return the rest at Barnes and Noble without a receipt for store credit.

Hmmm, it appears that the boxed set was never produced, despite being released two years ago...

What? I've seen the box set myself... although it was at Suncoast "Arm, Leg, And Genitals" Motion Pictures where they wanted over $100 for it.

Recently? Maybe it was a limited release kind of thing.

EDIT: Maybe stupid question: Was it foreign? I saw a few Japanese versions on eBay.

I do believe those box sets do not include the new super duper editions to the movies that have been coming out every quarter. They're up to ST:VI and Generations is next. It would be a better idea to buy the uber editions instead of the plain vanilla ones.

The box pictured at Amazon has all the Director Cut/Special Editions in it, but I've seen boxes with it only partially filled with those.

No, I'm pretty sure it was all Director's Cuts and that it was a domestic release, although it was something like six months ago I think.

There is a box set of TOS director's cut movies. You can snag it from Deep Discount DVD for $72.43, or you can buy the individual movies seperately for $79.59. I recommend getting the box set; you save money, and get the nifty box.

On a partially related note, does anyone know if there are any plans to release any special editions of the TNG movies?

Yes. Generations is scheduled for sometime this year, I think.

September the seventh. You can pre-order it from DVD Soon for just under eleven bucks.
