I knew Doohan would probably be the next OC member to die, but not like this.

With Reagans recent passing, im surprised their hasnt been a renewed outcry to erradicate this disease. With all the talk of renaming buidlings, and putting his face everywhere, a real tribute to Reagan would be to erradicte Alzheimer's.

With respect to Mr Doohan, this will be hardest on his family. He and his wife have a four year old daughter. To think of her growing up watching her father just fade away is just awful.

I feel for her in this time due to my past experiences; I had to spend the latter half of my childhood and early adult life watching my mother fight valiantly, but lose her battle with ovarian cancer.

But Alzheimers...That's even worse than cancer. I mean, cancer destroys your body, but Alzheimers takes away your mind, the very memories you cherish and hold.

Anyone else think he's lost weight, based on that picture of him?

I could see this coming. The last time I saw him on Conan a few years ago. It was painful to watch him stumble through the interview.

I do believe he has shed a ton. Just recently, I'd been thinking he was in fairly good shape for a man of his age. You can clearly see the ghost of his younger self in that face.

But I recall seeing him at a local convention once, a few years ago, and it seemed sometimes that he was slurring his words. The rumour going around then was that he was rather friendly with the bottle. But now I have to wonder if he might have been suffering early random symptoms of Alzheimers.

I don't mean this in any sort of callous way, but I hope he has three days to say goodbye and then croaks. Alzheimers is an awful way to go.

This will sound strange, but I hope that he doesn't have to suffer too long with this disease. My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimers when he turned 84, but he had to only live with it for about a year before he died of a quick heart attack. It might be better if the same thing happened to Mr. Doohan.

God this sucks.

That isn't strange at all.
My grandmother was in extremely good physical health when she was diagnosed, and degenerated mentally for ten years to the point where she was a vegetable, for all intents and purposes.
Alzheimer's is horrifying beyond words...
