Shatner to (possibly) make an appearance in ENT

Post by DaveJB »

From the IMDb:
Shatner To Return As Capt. Kirk?

William Shatner may reprise his role as Capt. James Kirk on UPN's Star Trek: Enterprise next season, producer Rick Berman has told the sci-fi magazine Starburst. "Bill luckily has landed a wonderful role on the new David E. Kelley spinoff of The Practice, but [co-producer] Brannon [Braga] and I have plans within the next few weeks of sitting down with Bill and discussing some possible ways of his being involved in this season of Enterprise," Berman told the magazine. Such an appearance would mark Shatner's first on any of the modern-day Star Trek TV series. He played Kirk in the original series in the late '60s and in seven films.
Well, to be fair Berman's quote doesn't make it clear as to whether Shatner would be playing Kirk, or an ancestor or something.

But if he was playing Kirk, just how the HELL would that work? Shatner is 73, if B&B hadn't noticed! The only possible way I can think that this would even begin to work is if the Enterprise encountered the Nexus. Which would still mess up continuity with GEN.

Of course, this could just be a hoax (there's been more than one occasion where an IMDb story was falsified), but would anyone really be surprised if Shatner made his way into ENT?

Enterprise had the Borg and the Romulans in it right?

Yes, but they did come up with a reasonably good (by B&B standards) reason why the Borg were there, and the Romulans really should be there (I'm disappointed that we haven't seen more of them, seeing as how the Romulan War is supposed to be fought in this time period.) Having the Ferrengi on the show, on the other hand, was just dumb.

It's dumb. But if they really wanted to do it, they should just make him an alien. Bit hard to take a human that will end up looking exactly like Kirk years down the line.

What's next Picard, Janeway, or Sisco?

I was reading in an issue of Star Trek Communicator where Shatner wanted to make an appearence in Ent. He was going to play Kirk's ancestor they were going to add make-up to him to age him even more that life has and let him play James T. Kirks Great Grand father or something along that.

Why not? It's not like Enterprise is going to get any worse. After you jump the shark nothing matters. Hell have him trapped in 1944 in the season premiere with only Archer able to free him from the evil Temporal Cold War Aliens. Bring in Janeway too!

Bringing in Kirk is an indication, to me anyway, as to just how dire the situation is for ENT and it's lacklustr ratings? Want to raise ratings? Well then bring on crappy VGR Borg episodes, crappy VGR Borg episodes, and throw in Kirk too! :banghead:

IIRC in the DS9 episode "Tribbles and Tribulation they used old stock footage from TOS and edited it.

He does this, the embarassment will be so great that Priceline.com will have to drop him as their spokesman. 8)

More than enough, I should think - unlike Marlon Brando who is, according to rumor, pretty much broke.

IIRC he got a chuck of change in life insurance money after he let his wife drown in the pool.

Nah, Shatner is pretty well off. Hell, Priceline commercials alone pay much more than we make.

I like Shatner. I think he's hilarious. The dude could be a poster boy for adult ADHD. Anyone remember him on "The Devil's Rain?" The movie where Anton LaVey was used as a consultant? Hilarious. Even if it wasn't meant to be.

Shatner is hilarious because he's largely become a freakish charicature of himself. He shows up, acts like his nutty self, audiences love him due to his insane energy, and he leaves with a paycheck. He's literally making a living off of being a Celebrity Personality and I say bully for him.

Yes, I read the same thing over at TrekToday. I think I would like to see Shatner in Enterprise as he did a good job portraying Kirk.

Shatner also does (or at least recently did) paintballing. Isn't he in his 70's?

I think he's doing pretty well for himself.

Well there was NO indication whatsoever of foul play.

But then again, who'd really want to persecute Captain James. T Kirk, eh?

William Shatner = narcicistic hollywood asshole

No, it's called making wild-ass accusations for which you haven't a fuck's worth of proof for.

Free Enterprise was his best film outside of ST- I loved the insane version of himself. And who can forget that Twilight Zone episode?
