What happens to characters in Trek who fall by the wayside?
What happens to those who don't make the cut, don't fit in, or stuff up in an extrodinary fashion?
The Doctor (while standing in the pouring rain)-Pardon me, but could you spare a glass of water?

A lot of the one or two time use characters appear a lot in the books and comics.
Peter David's "New Frontier" series makes use of a lot of characters that were on the shows for a little while.
Dr. Selar - TNG she was the Dr. who worked opposite Crusher. Really only mentioned in the show and not really shown.
Ens. Lefler - TNG she was in a couple of episodes (Played by Ashley Judd).
Cmdr. Lockely - TNG You might remember her from The Best of Both Worlds
The Cetacean specialist from ST IV appears in the comic Debt of Honor.

Really...what happens to them be it real or in universe?Spanky The Dolphin wrote:While Tsyroc's answer is excellent, I really don't get what the question is asking.
In Universe...unknown.
Real, like Tysroc's answers...until another writer picks them up, they're just in limbo for eternity until mentioned as some casualty.

Probably. I know there's a picture of her in the Trek Encyclopedia but I didn't realize she was ever shown on the show.teleguy wrote:Wasn't she the Vulcan doctor in "The Schizoid Man" ?Tsyroc wrote:

She was played by Susie Plakston (sp?) the same actress who played Alexander's mother, Q's "wife" and several other characters on different Trek shows.

Apparently they must have picked up this tradition some time after Enterprise.Aya wrote:I feel sorry for Selar, her husband had a massive heart attack while they were mind melding, which apparently is what Vulcans do just before they screw.

How did we make it this far and no one caught that Tysroc's subconcious was channeling a B5 Fantasy?
It's Commander Shelby! Lockely was on season 5 of B5!

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

You know, I think that's at least the second time I've done that with Shelby and Lockely.Lonestar wrote: It's Commander Shelby! Lockely was on season 5 of B5!

Aya wrote:Shelby is also the XO of the Excalibur. Peter David seems to have decided to use all the wayside characters.
Now she's captain of the Galaxy class starship Trident. Her hubby is still the CO of the Excalibur.
Peter David is also good at coming up with lots of stuff and characters that tie back into the history of TOS and TNG. Sometimes it can be a little cheesy ("the Great Bird of the Galaxy"
