I am not knocking the author of the website but I got an e-mail that I am asking for how I should respond. I did a writeup of the Norway class vessel as a conversion:

I got an e-mail of this:

comments: You have almost all your facts on the Norway-class wrong.
I suggest you look up on the official stat page for Star Trek ships,
http://www.ditl.org , and check them.
The Norway-class was designed as a science ship, first coming off the production lines in 2360. And It has been seen in Star Trek 8: First Contact, as the USS Budapest.
Also, it is NOT made with families in mind, but is officially stated as a scienc/VIP-transport/destroyer/border cutter.
You better check your facts before putting them online and be caught at it.

I have used DITL in the past to fill in the information but the policy of canon is that only the series and movies are canon. How would you respond to such a person?

Simple. Tell him the site isn't official, although Kennedy is very clear on whether a specific piece of information is canon. He also lists sources rather concisely.

You should point out to this Jostein character that almost all information regarding the Norway class at DITL is Kennedy's own speculation. Nothing else.

Either diplomatically or bluntly, your choice, tell him to remove his hand from his wanker when dealing with NON-cannon sources. Your explaination of the
Norway Class isn't any different than Kennedy's explaination.

Kennedy's site is a great resource of information if you care to sift through it. I am glad he does bother to seperate canon from offical and speculation.

But the point is that some idiot out there actually thinks his website has some kind of official status unto itself.

He's also got a WoI as big as Dark Star's.
That being said, his site is a great example of good visual appeal, and it's relatively easy to find pictures of just about anything in Trek there.

Well, if there's people who claim DarkStar's site to be official, it should be no surprise that people are doing the same for the DITL.

DITL is good at filling in on information on unknown areas. For example we have no idea about the armaments or capabilities of lesser known ships like Saber, Niagra etc class. It is not canon or official but it is a good source of info for game developers or modders who need detailed info on lesser known ships.

I concur; a lot of info I've used on ship capabilities in my Trek/Wars x-over comes from DITL.
