Hi everyone,

When Greg Cox first came out with the Eugenic War books he said he'd be writing 3 books with the third volume being about Kahn's time on Seti Alpha 5. A insert in my ST II TWOK DVD also mentioned the third book.

Does anyone know what happened to this 3rd book, is he still planning on writing it?

IF he were to write it I wonder how he'd pull it off. In the first two books you had Gary 7 as the protagonist against Kahn. In the third book you wouldn't have a protagonist but the book would be Kahn vs. trying to survie on Seti alpha 5, or evil guy vs planet. Does that make for a good 3rd book? Would you want to be rooting for Kahn to live?

He's still on it; it's due out in January of 2005.

Does try to fit in with stuff we have learned from Enterprise or does it completly ignore it?

I can't say whether the stuff from Enterprise jives with it or not but it does seem to fit with Voyager. So, instead of the Trek timeline being something different than our own the books are written so the Eugenics Wars could have been going on and we just didn't know about it.

Personally, the Eugenics Wars sounded a lot worse and more omninous in TOS so I've been kind of disappointed that Voyager's trip to present day Earth fubared that.

Still, the two books are pretty decent and make good use of some other TOS guest stars.

Well, you have to remember that when 'Space Seed' was written, genetic engineering was becoming a controversial topic and Roddenberry was simply trying to give a warning of what would happen if he we tried messing with things that we shouldn't; it also seemed that something like this could indeed happen 30 years into the future at the time. The only concession that the Idiots that Be gave was the Botany Bay model.

I seem to recall that time travel creates a new universe from the old one, which supports the notion that ENT is a parallel universe. Of course, it also makes most of ST a parallel universe as well.

Also brings up the El-Aurian plot hole. If the El-Aurians arrived on Earth 70 years before the first Borg invasion of the Federation, how come the Feds had never heard of them? It's possible that Starfleet was too focused on the post-Khitomer Klingons and pre-Tomed Romulans or perhaps Section 31 had a role to play or perhaps B and B are j9ust too fucking stupid to care.

That is the most logical explanation. B & B pay little attention to continuty.

It could just be that because any scans made of the Borg in Enterprise wouldnt have revealed anywhere near as much as ones on TNG that the info was too insuficiant for the computers to make the connection. And there is no reason why any of the TNG crew would have heard of the borg just because they were seen once hundreds of years ago.

And the name "Borg" never even came up in Regeneration. Though I'm not endorsing it as a good episode...horrible of B&B.

Eh, I've always had mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it was a tpyical VGR-esque Borg episode rather than the terrifying Borg of TNG and felt like an attempt to gain ratings like DS9 had done by bringing on Worf in Season 4. In the other hand, it was necessary to address the effect of First Contact on the ENT era and this was a way to do it.
