Memory Prime
In the TOS era, Memory Prime was an asteroid filled with computer cores for the purpose of storing the sum total of all recorded information...essentially, a library/archive.
In the TNG era, just about every federation vessel larger than a shuttle has this level of computer memory at hand.
Is Memory Prime, therefore, obsolete?

Idont think it is obsolete. Computer cores aboard shuttles and starships are unstable as demonstrated by the numeorus computer glitches seen on Star Trek. Memory alpha offers a safe static storage that wont be affected as easily as a ship board computer.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Re: Memory Prime
they upgraded the computer systems on the starships, why wouldn't they have upgraded the systems on memory alpha? It would give them even greater storage capacity for data and the ability to store even more. with far less risk than presented by storing things aboard starships that are likely to undergo damage which would risk harming their computer's memory.Enola Straight wrote:In the TOS era, Memory Prime was an asteroid filled with computer cores for the purpose of storing the sum total of all recorded information...essentially, a library/archive.

Does anyone know if there were more memory storage facilities? Memory Beta, Gamma, and so on?
