Anyway, I saw this in the local newspaper, and since discovered it's "front-page" news on Yahoo as well. Anyone heard about that box that supposedly has the bones of Jesus Christ?
I like how the box is in the collection of an "anonymous collector" who won't let it be studied. When the fuck did real newspapers have to start picking up tabloid stories to make due? Isn't there, y'know, strife overseas they could be reporting on instead? Things that actually matter? Oh well.
Acutal I caught this on CNN its not Jesus's Bone box apprently its John, Jesus's Brother/Half-Brother/Cousin
First time I even HEARD about this guy

Actually, they're claming it belonged to his brother James. (who may or may not have existed as described in scripture)

Even if credible scientist could study it, they could never be able to say with any degree of certainity that it is genuinely what it's claimed to be. They could maybe date it within a few hundred years, and give an approximate point of origin.

Around the late 1890s. Thanks goes to Pulitzer and Hearst.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.
Actually from what I read from Yahoo news it's a box from James', son of Joseph, brother of Jesus, box. That means that it is not necessarily that of Jesus Christ's brother. It just could be a box from a guy named James whose father was named Joseph and had a brother named Jesus. The box never said anything about actually being related in any way to Jesus Christ.

Oh, I remember this in geography class. Teacher: "Um, yeah, hmm, oh the found a coffin with the inscription "James brother of Jesus. THis means Jesus lived on Earth, thats um if you believe in it or not." Then I said Jewish & Spainards name their kids Jesus too. And she responded"Um, yeah eh." Basically besides the teacher's highly overuse of interjectiomns she's a Fundie unwilling too confront me, by that line, and they don't know I'm atheist.

So there is a bit of evidence that the biblical Jesus existed. It's possible that its the real deal. That doesn't mean anything about the morality or truth of Jesus's teaching.

Not in this universe. Remember:

No doubt both this newspaper and Yahoo will be sued by Weekly World News for plagirism.

Eh. What's the big deal? Some guy named Jesus existed. Some guy named Jesus ran around and said some really amazing things about.... LOVE! Wow! Revolutionary! Some guy named Jesus started a little cult, which turned into a religion, which turned itself into a whole bunch of cults, which all then turned themselves into religions.
In a few thousand years, people might be arguing whether or not L. Ron Hubbard existed.
What was "Jesus"'s original name (Not to mention the original names of his family and disciples) anyway? Somehow I doubt someone would've decided to name their child with a word meaning "Greater than Zeus" in Greek.

I thought his name was Joshua before he was called Jesus in Greek but I'm not positive.
