OK so they have gone to over including the Ferengi, Borg and any other "Make-up" aliens into the last two incarnations of Startrek.
So which of the pre-existing and SFB races should be shown in future movies/TV

My vote's for the Gorn BTW, at least the tholians get lipservice and sidelong mentions in Best of Both Worlds, and Nemesis.
and the SFB are real trek, (although the Hydran fighter swarm would be awesome in CGI)

I would say Gorn, but I would hate to see another alien race ruined by modern sensibilities. If they could use the same costume, with only a little bit of modernizing to make it look a tiny bit more realistic and detailed, then maybe, but you know they would completely change the look, probably make them brown with green or yellow patches and large scales and small, reptilian eyes. And of course they would have to have a few sets of ridges on their heads. I want plain green Gorn with smooth skin and big, shiny compound eyes. Since there's no way on earth I can have that, I voted Hydran. We've never seen them in cannon, and with CGI they could be done really well. It would be neat to see a really alien species, instead of mammals and reptiles and insects. I think it is one of the greatest and most tragic failings of Star Trek that we have seen so few really alien life forms. Since TNG, they are all too familiar, and the Xindi make me sick. I'd rather have kzinti; at least that's only one familiar form instead of seven.

The Gorn captain was owned by a cruedly made cannon.
I definatly want to see the Gorn and Tholians more. That's one of the golden things about Enterprise, when they had the Tholians do a guest appearance.

they've done a bit of work with the tholians in the trek novels, but sadly nothing in the series so it isn't canon.
personally i think it'd be interesting to see some more from the medusians, the navigators that helped with the starfleet navigations systems, and made spock go slightly insane in that TOS episode.
and, er, this is showing a bit of ignorance here, but what exactly is SFB?

Star Fleet Battles=liscenced wargame reacently brought into the wing as part of the starfleet universe (allegedly the Mirak, Lyrans and Hydrans do live in the alpha quadrant, we just haven't seen them yet.)
Basic summary:
Mirak: (cough Kzin, cough) Carnivorous Humaniod cats who are at war with the Lyrans, use lots of warp driven drone "missiles"
Lyrans: More lynx like feline humaniods, funky tufted ears etc. They have longer range matter resistant bubble shields that they use to perform ramming attacks, as well as to sweep the stars of Kzin Drones and hydran Fighters.
Hydrans: Methane breathing one meter tall, six limbed, three sexed aliens. these guys have taken the idea of the Carrier battle group to heart. Their Fusion guns do serious hurt to anything that their fighters get in range of.
The thing is, with the Hydrans you would have to do it CGI as ibe there us no other FX tech to make those aliens right. Also the fighter swarm would make for one of the best CGI scenes in Star trek memory.

Tholians appeared on Enterprise some time ago, so it's possible that we might seem them again. They certainly have potential.Bertie Wooster wrote:I voted for the Tholians. "The Tholian Web" was one of the best TOS episodes IMO, in large part because the Tholians were so mysterious and odd. It's also nice to see non-humanoid aliens for a change. It's too bad we haven't seen them in any trek since then.

I thought Kirk's Enterprise was the first recorded Fed. encounter with the Tholians, though???

I think they had encountered the Tholians before, actually.
Did they actually have any interior or viewscreen shots of the Tholians, or was it just external shots of their ships? Did they speak, also?
I vote Gorn. And as a man in a suit. Not CGI, non a man with makeup. I want a man in a God damn suit, because the one from TOS looked damn fucking good. Just update it a LITTLE (more mechanical than cosmetic), and it should be fine.

No the silicon based Tholians have the lognest treaty stipulations in history. They are in the beta quadrant, and mostly conflict with the Klingons. Nominally Federation allies, they got pissed off that the enterprise invaded their space, looking for a ship that had been shot up by the Klingons, and wound up in a temporal rift.Bertie Wooster wrote:dammit, I can't believe I missed the Tholians in Enterprise!!![]()

That's all.
As for a more serious mention...the Gorn. Hell they are barely mentioned in books.

It's been a while since I saw the episode ("Future Tense") where the Tholians made their short visit, but from what I can remember...
- We didn't get to see how they looked like
- Their ships looked the same as in TOS and seemed rather powerful, being able to disable a Vulcan vessel and destroy some Suliban ships.
- At one point they communicated with Enterprise and we could hear them speaking their bizarre, non-humanoid language, which was almost simultaneously translated into comprehensible English with a speech synthesizer

I want to see more of the Tholians in Enterprise, so I voted them for them. I would also like to see the Gorn in a new series and Lyran or Mirak, I read an article where Nivan said he really wants to see his cat species make a comback in Star Trek. They first apeared in the animated series when, I think, he wrote an episode.
T'Pol identified them as Tholians, she said they are an extremely xenophobic race and that it is unusual for Tholians to travel far from their system. Reed scanned them, their interior was more than 200 degrees. There was a half second delay between the end of the untranslated sraching squeeling Tholian language and the begining of the English tranlation. Their ships seemed to be a fifth the size of Enterprise and just as powerfull, probably more powerfull. They also had a pulse weapon that was able to disable the warp engines and polorized hull plating, there main weapon was a blue beam. Four such Tholian ships took out the Vulcan ship.Oberleutnant wrote:It's been a while since I saw the episode ("Future Tense") where the Tholians made their short visit, but from what I can remember...

Wasn't there a rather pricey hard bound graphic novel with TNG crew and the Gorn? I think it was supposed to take place during the Dominion War so this was another reason the Enterprise-E wasn't involved in the Dominion War action.Ghost Rider wrote:Orion Women.
