Surely Voyager had some good points? So heres a thread to record them.

Please this is for genunily postive Voyager points. So if ytou want to be negative don't post in this thread. That includes stuff like "it only last 7 years" crap. OK?

"Living Witness" deserves to be considered part of the pantheon of great Trek episodes.

Voyager didn't have many moments, but the ones it did gave you a glimpse of what it could have been. It was a great concept, and when it wasn't busy with aliens of the week, holodeck malfunctions, and jamming the reset button as hard as it could, you could see a really great TV show struggling to dig out from under a huge pile of mediocrity. It was kinda like first and second season TNG--most of it was crap, but you saw signs of what the show could be, and when they broke out in the third season, you were rewarded for your faith.

Voyager, sadly, never broke out.

Episode 1 of "The Year of Hell" two-parter was suberb. Even in the depths of my Voyager-hatred I can say that with perfect honesty. However, the subsequent conclusion to the two-parter reaffirmed why I detested this show.

Year of Hell part 1 was exactly what I had been waiting to see in Voyager - a sense of desperation, this was one small ship in a big galaxy; damage that - surprise! - wasn't magically repaired by the end of the episode; a relentless foe who sought to destroy Voyager and wasn't shy about shooting it with everything they had. We saw the crew come to the realisation that their starfleet training and technology didn't grant invulnerability. We saw Janeway make tough decisions.

The Year of Hell part 2 happened and the re-set button was pushed once again. None of the above ever happened; things returned to where they were before. With the exception of Nemesis I don't think I've ever been as personally insulted watching a show. That was incidentally the last episode of Voyager I ever watched.

I realise this might seem a "negative" post, but there really is no other way of saying it. Voyager sucked mainly because it had all this potential and it was pissed away. However, "Year of Hell" part 1 remains a good episode purely for a glimpse of what might have been.

Year of Hell. Up to the reset button.

Emergancy Command Hologram. :D

The Prometheus. Star Trek needs more ships like that :D :D

The Prometheus and Intrepid class designs. Proof that Starfleet doesn't need to build a big ship to make it good. Interpid is a nice long range high speed cruiser. Not the heaviest of weapon compliments but the ship can take care of itself. Prometheus. Putting some bigger guns onto a midsized ship for the first time.

The Doctor. He was a rather interesting character and some of the best Voyager episodes revolved around him and his interactions with Seven.

I personally didn't find Jeri Ryan particuarly attractive. Am I alone?

compared to the rest of the cast on voyager, she was the most attractive.

I thought that most of the visual effects on Voyager were very good.

The Intrepid class design was pretty decent. Not reall thrilled about the varriable geometry warp nacels but the rest of the ship was good.

The Prometheus was cool.

They did have some episodes with some interesting ethical questions, most of which I think Janeway screwed the pooch but the questions were good.

Was there a reason why the nacels moved?

Well they had to be up so they wouldn't damage supspace.
But as far as i can tell there was no reason for them not to be up all the time.

Probable the biggest detractor is the utterly hopeless scripting and the near emotionless character.

The actress is attractive. The character of Seven isn't. Why is it that in seven years of one lame season after another the writers couldn't be bothered giving either The Doctor or Seven a real name? I know the latter had Alyanaka or something, but she never adopted it I don't think.

I think the ship was supposed to be more manuverable at impulse speeds with the nacels in the down position. Why? I have no idea.

Futures End is my favorite episode. The timetravell plot was done very well in this episode.

Voyager's good points? Uh, that's kind of like asking what's good about labotomy.

I always thought the show had a great premise.

And when it had to, it had some great comedic moments.

The premise was excellent, as was Deep Space 9's. Both shows were aiming to veer away from the old style Star Trek - not that there's anything wrong with TOS or TNG, it's just why bother telling the same story over and over? - however, while the premise for both shows were good their delivery was off, sometimes tragically.

One of my main problems with it was that the acting was attrocious. It was really hard to get into the plots and storylines when Kate Mulgrew could have starred in an Ed Wood flick and fit in nicely. I mean seriously, the last time I watched Voyager was during a Borg episode where Seven returned. When Janeway was leaving, she turned around and looked back with the stupidest fucking expression on her face. I mean, her acting is just BAD. Mix in her nasal voice and you have one truely bad actress.

Originally, IIRC the nacelles were supposed to be in different positions for different warp factors. But that would have required some small dedication to continuity.

Excuse me? Did you not read the TITLE of the threaD? Did you not read the OP? Yes, we all know Voyager is mainly crap! But this is a thread to highlight it's much fewer good points. If you can't say anyrhing good DON'T POST here! Start a dedicated voyager bashing thread or just popst in one of dozens in this forum. OK?

DS9 did well I think. At least it did better than Voyger.
