Alternate Voyager Question

Post by Invader ZIm »

Ok I have done my best to burn ST:VOY from my memory. But I seem to recall that Janeway was the 1st Officer for the opening of the pilot. Shortly into the story the Captian is killed and she takes over.

Here's the question. Do you think its possible that the ORGINAL captian of Voyager , if he had not been killed, would have handled the whole trip through the Delta Quad better than Janeway did?

Evidentally your Voyager purge was too successful - Janeway was the captain, and her XO was killed. How you got them mixed up is anyone's guess.

Do you want to rephrase it as an Alternate Reality?

Don't forget the original doctor, but it would be interesting to see what would have happened if her XO had survived.

Hopefully the XO would have removed her from command. And used the Caretakers array to get home. He could even have destroyed the array after they left by puting the tricobalt devices on time delay.

Yeah, I think "You are incompetent" and "I'm taking command" would have appeared sooner. Plus there wouldn't be those shitty episodes about Chakotays vision quests.

Oh, what about the Chief Engineer, he ( she?) was also killed in "Caretaker."

The entire medical staff was killed. They died a pretty bad death, apparently. For some reason, there was a plasma conduit in sickbay and it exploded.

Exploding plasma conduit, go figure. Does electricity not exist in the future?

i think that question was answered already in another thread. considering the way federation consoles crackle and flash when disrupted by attacks on the ship, i'd say it's a safe bet that electricity is used in some fashion.

Apparently not. The conduit should've been placed further into the wall and surrounded with thick metal plates.

Shrapnel

Depending on the explosive force of the plasma, that may just create more shrapnel.

How much of a medical staff did voyager have? Given the size of the ship i can't see it having more than 5.

Also how many crew members did Voyager lose in the pilot?

Fives a good number. We don't know the exact number of dead, but I'd say it was high. We do know that the XO and helms officer were killed. Anyone else bothered by the fact that the only medical staff they seemed to have, besides the EMH was Kes and occasionally, Paris?

Quite a few were killed in the original episode, but most were replaced by Chakotay's crew. One notable death was the female Betazoid who was Voyager's original pilot. I don't recall the name exactly, I think it started with an S. Paris spent the first episode hitting on her.

EAS lists the deathcount in "Caretaker" as "unspecified, at least five."

So as an extremely conservative estimate, assuming that the Betazoid ensign and Janeway's XO were the only other casualties, would be that Voyager had a medical crew of three, which is reasonable given the size of her sickbay.

*ahem*

I count 2 medical staff, which not surprisingly, corresponds with the number of medical staff we see onscreen - namely the arsehole doctor and the Vulcan nurse. The other 3 casualties were Lt.Commdr. Cavit, Lt. Stadi, and the Chief Engineer whom we never see. Add them up and you get 5. :P

There may have been more medical staff, but we don't actually see them. :?

Is it just me or was Lt. Commander Cavit really old for his rank. He looked to be 40-50's, which would make sense for a medical officer, but not someone moving through the chain of command.

Maybe he was like Riker, y'know? Always staying on one command, passing up promotion for whatever reason. Then again, maybe he liked grey hair, and fashioned himself accordingly?
