ST6: TUC-SE

I was listening to the director's commentary for ST6: TUC-SE, and heard a couple interesting things.

The co-screenwriter, Denny Martin Flynn, was so proud of the "firsts" he introduced in the movie. He said of the Klingon "pinkish" blood that from this movie forward, Klingon blood would be this color. From this movie forward, Klingons would have no tear ducts. And he was proud of the veridium patch he invented.

Well, one out of three ain't bad.

What do you mean here? That one out of the three were good ideas, or only one out of the three were employed in later episodes/movies etc?

I think its a comment on the lack of internal consistance in StarTrek, and the shocking quality of Trek writers.

I love the useless threads that continue to pop up. "Star Trek sucks", "Star Trek has consistency problems", yadda yadda yadda. We got the fucking point awhile ago. People here dislike Trek.

I like that guy. His How Not to Write a Screenplay book is great.

I take it B&B are often mentioned in his book, right?

No. Not at all. In fact he only mentions his work on ST6 on one page while going over his background.

Really, though, it's a fantastic book.

You missed the point. He wasn't dissing Trek as a whole, he was dissing B&B's policy of ignoring continuity.

The pink Klingon blood part was interesting. They at least tried to make the Klingons a little more different than a human with bony forhead.

oH I get it, it's not a VALID criticism of the franchise as it stands now and its continuity policy, its a "Trek Sucks" rant. Riiiggghhhtt.

Who said the criticism is not valid? The point is the criticism is getting annoyingly repetitive. He's pointing out inconsistency in Trek, which has been pointed out thousands of times(at least) before. Preaching to the choir comes to mind, or flogging a dead horse. Essentially his entire post boiled down to another "here's another inconsistency is Trek! boo!".

Seriously, I think there should be a forum created specifically for negative ranting about Trek. Given the volume of material I see, the forum should get filled in no time.

As opposed to the constant attacks against the quality of the prequels and the inconsistencies in the EU that many here like to point out as well? If there is a constant drumbeat of criticism its usually because there's a reason for it to exist. Wars is not immune to this phenomenon, but Trek continually puts its vile drek on the screen while Wars assaults our sensibilties every few years with a movie.

You really need to get a thicker skin about this supposed Trek bashing, I see plenty of Wars EU bashing and prequel bashing as well, I also see SG bashing, and LOTR bashing so on and so on.

Oh you have time to post on the message board but no time to write the next chapter of Starcrossed eh?

Actually, the blood was made pink to help the film avoid an R rating. If that sounds surprising, remember that it was back in 1991.

You misunderstand, Borg-boy. TUC:SE is a new product, and I was commenting on a new piece of information that continues to show the rapid degradation of Star Trek. I will contiunue to do this every time I find such a thing, so that we never forget what a bunch of assholes can do to run a franchise into the fucking ground. Don't like it? Don't read it.

*eyes Lord Poe cracking knuckles* Well...since you put it that way...

Seriously though, I see perhaps I was overeacting and misunderstanding. :? I hereby retract my statement and apologize.
